Update: Despite reports yesterday that ABC's DIRTY DANCING remake may feature a handful of original songs when it premieres later this year, representatives from both the network and Lionsgate have now confirmed to BroadwayWorld that no new tunes will be inserted into the original material. ABC's update will instead remain in line with the original 1987 blockbuster film.

The classic hit centers on Baby, an innocent young woman in the early 1960s who vacations with her affluent parents and siblings in the Catskills and falls for Johnny, the resort's charismatic dance instructor and leader of the working-class entertainment staff.

The cast also includes Billy Dee Williams, Sarah Hyland, Nicole Scherzinger, Katey Sagal, Trevor Einhorn, Debra Messing, Tony Roberts, and Beau "Casper" Smart.

Although the production will not be broadcast live, it will resemble FOX's upcoming filmed remake of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

Wayne Blair is on board to helm the project and Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler, who choreographed the hit Broadway musical HAMILTON will serve as choreographer.

The production team will also include Adam Anders and Judy Cairo (producers), Stephen Altman (Production Designer) Adam Anders and Peer Astrom (music). Jessica Sharzer (American Horror Story) penned the script.

A premiere date for DIRTY DANCING has yet to be announced by ABC.
