Tersa Fellion, Teddy Tedholm and More Set for Green Space, Feb 2014

Green Space is pleased to offer a diverse roster of new/ emerging artists in February.

Fertile Ground will present new work by various artists and Take Root will present an evening of work by Teresa Fellion and Teddy Tedholm.

TAKE ROOT, now in its 5th season, aids in the continued development and performance of new dance work of various aesthetics by providing choreographers with the opportunity to be produced in a full-length or paired evening of work. This once a month series supports dance makers by providing our venue, Green Space, with full technical and marketing support.

About the Work:

Teresa Fellion presents "The Mantises Are Flipping (P.S. I'll have whatever they're having)". This work investigates reactions to sound and explores dualities through movement. The piece adopts a voyeuristic point of view into the intimate, idiosyncratic relationships among eight individuals. Sentiments vary through a range of quirky, stylized vocabulary. Teresa Fellion's choreography is like a car engine of movement; transference of energy that is constantly remolded/shifted, and brings us to a beautiful place. -Celeste Miller, Jacob's Pillow International Dance Festival

Teddy Tedholm's 'Urban Deity' will create the traditions of a new religion that fuses simple ideas with the complications of living in the 21st century. Through explosive, meticulous movement, the audience will be immersed in a mashed-up atmosphere of new and old. Mr. Tedholm will retrofit new ideas into old molds to create something new... with a smirk. 'Urban Deity' is a new wave look at the oldest ages we know of.

Company/ Choreographer Biographies:

BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance is a contemporary performance/Dance Company that strives to capture and communicate universal human encounters through dynamic, purposeful movement. It is a multifaceted, highly physical company laced with provocative, emotional, political, and humorous edges. The company has presented work at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, Bryant Park SummerStage, Booking Dance Festival (Edinburgh, Scotland), Dixon Place, DNA, Univeristy of Maine, ICA Boston, Ashawagh Hall, The Franco American Cultural Center Theater, and Williamsburg Art and Historical Center, among others. The company has been positively reviewed by sources such as NPR, NYTheatre.com, The Skinny Magazine, World Dance Reviews, Edinburgh Spotlight, Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, Maine Sun Journal, East Hampton Press, and Earth Press. They have taught at The Ailey School, Sarah Lawrence College, NYU, Jacob's Pillow, University of Maine, DreamYard Project and Pace University, among others.

Teddy Tedholm's unique style of movement and obvious love of dance that mark his noteworthy performances have made him a widely sought-after choreographer and teacher. For several years, Teddy has traveled the United States assisting major choreographers including Billy Larson, Erica Sobol and Emily Shock. He has taught at studios throughout the country, including the world-renowned Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles, Teddy is a member of Erica Sobol's collidEDance Company. In 2013, Teddy graduated with honors from the University of the Arts, under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. While in Philadelphia he produced much of his own work, including eleven:eleven, a self-produced full-evening work to great reviews. These achievements also led to him being awarded the University of the Arts' Stella Moore Prize for Four Years of Outstanding Achievement. Recently, he was nominated for a World Dance Award in the category of Best Choreography Concert/Live Performance. He currently resides in New York City where he produces his own work.

FERTILE GROUND is a monthly new works showcase for emerging and established artists now in its 8th season, producing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. This non-curated performance event features five-six choreographers each evening, and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green.

DANCE ENTROPY / GREEN SPACE: Dance Entropy Inc. created its company home base, Green Space, in Long Island City, in November 2005. Green Space is a spacious 2000 sq. foot venue housed in a former silk factory with magnificent views overlooking Manhattan. Green Space offers choreographers, dancers and the local community an affordable professional dance rehearsal, class, and performance space in New York City.

DIRECTIONS: By Subway: N, Q, or the 7 to Queensboro Plaza, the first stop outside Manhattan. Take the North pedestrian bridge to the street. Look to your right, you will see Crescent St., turn right on Crescent and walk to 38th Ave. Turn left on 38th Ave. Walk one block to 24th street. Green Space is in the red brick, four-story building. (Approximately a ten-minute walk.)
