State Ballet Theatre of Russia to Bring SLEEPING BEAUTY to NJPAC, 2/9
The State Ballet Theatre of Russia brings Tchaikovsky's immortal "Sleeping Beauty" to NJPAC's Prudential Hall on February 9, 2014 at 3:00pm. This timeless fairy tale of a princess cursed to sleep for 100 years, is considered one of Tchaikovsky's greatest jewels.
Choreographed by Marius Petipa, considered by many to be, "the father of classical ballet" "Sleeping Beauty" is considered his most significant work. The New York Times has raved that this production of "Sleeping Beauty" is "...full of enchantment... lovely scenery (and) graceful costumes ... this fairy tale comes to life!"
The State Ballet Theatre of Russia is the touring name of the The Voronezh State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The world-renowned troupe has toured with productions of traditional Russian classics throughout France, (performing "Sleeping Beauty" in 38 cities), Germany, Holland and Czech Republic, as well as in India and throughout Africa with engagements in Tunisia, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia.
The State Ballet Theatre of Russia has a distinguished history that dates back to 1870. Their precise, traditional approach to the classic ballets-particularly those by Tchaikovsky-upholds the elegant, expressive ideals of Russian classical dance. Among the company of 50, including a full corps de ballet, are many acclaimed Russian artists and winners of many international ballet competitions.
