In response to the extraordinary demand for tickets the internationally acclaimed St Petersburg Ballet has added an extra two shows to their Melbourne season of Swan Lake. The short season will now run from tonight, June 19 to Monday June 22, 2015.

Tickets for the TWO ADDITIONAL shows on Friday 19 June at 7.30pm and Sunday 21 June at 12noon will go on sale at 9am tomorrow, Friday April 17, though Ticketmaster.

The upcoming season of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake marks the first time The St Petersburg Ballet will perform in Melbourne, making this a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience a full-length, classic production of the world's most loved ballet.

The St Petersburg Ballet recently completed a triumphant, sold out season in Paris playing at the prestigious Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Renowned UK dance critic Jeffrey Taylor said, "Swan Lake sweeps you away into a world of passion... The company shines".

He went on to praise Prima Ballerina Irina Kolesnikova saying, "Kolesnikova not only performs each basic step with astonishing correctness but fills the auditorium with the danger of her vulnerability and yearning for help... Kalesnikova carries us away with her seductive gifts of persuasion".

The Melbourne season of Swan Lake is part of a successful international tour for the 55 member company that has also seen additional shows added to its upcoming seasons in South Africa and Singapore. In August 2015, following the Melbourne season of Swan Lake, The St Petersburg Ballet will be presenting Swan Lake and La Bayadère at the London Coliseum.

Founded in 1994, The St Petersburg Ballet is renowned globally not just for its beautiful Vaganova trained dancers but also for its stunning, grand, full-length productions. When the company travels internationally they take the breathtaking scenery and magnificent costumes they are famous for with them

Australian producer Andrew Guild has many decades of experience in presenting quality Russian ballet around the world. He remarked, "The St Petersburg Ballet provides a great, authentic cultural experience as well as excellent entertainment. If you see only one ballet in your life, let it be this."
