Savion Glover to Bring STEPZ to Memorial Auditorium, 3/14

Tap dance prodigy, actor and choreographer SAVION GLOVER taps his way across stage in his engaging new work, STePz, a Bay Area Premiere. STePz, Mr. Glover's celebration of tap, displays the infinite versatility and virtuosity of Savion Glover's genius as a tap master. Mr. Glover and his ensemble of dancers take tap dance to new heights and levels while fusing traditional music selections of the past ((Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Shostakovich) with his self-proclaimed tap style and energy of the future. Glover's "strength doesn't stop at his feet...It pumps through his body, lanky and tightly wound, radiating out like an electrical force." - The New York Times SAVION GLOVER performs on Friday, March 14 at 8 pm at the Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags at Civic Center Drive in San Rafael, CA 94903. Tickets are $45, $35, $25, Premium seats $60, Students 20 and under $20, Bargain seats (rows 25-34) $20; and can be ordered through the Marin Center Box Office at 415-473-6800 or visit www.marincenter.org

In his latest production STePz, SAVION GLOVER and his ensemble of dancers, The HooFeRzCLub, pays homage to tap legends such as Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr., and Bill Robinson with his particular brand of energetic urban tap. Performing on amplified platforms and on double sided staircases to music by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Shostakovich, Glover and his dancers give an electrifying performance that keeps audiences mesmerized for the entire 100 minute show. This production exposes Glover's capability of all complexities of jazz phrasing, both bass line and melody, the wild improvisations, structures and deconstruction, from departure to return.

"The former "Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk" star can happily disappear into the group, but he's still a virtuoso. At 39, he can fill a room with sound while barely moving, or create intricate rhythms without breaking a sweat. You watch and wonder exactly how he does it." - The New York Post
