Minneapolis, MN -- Kicking off its 2015//16 Dance Season, Northrop at the University of Minnesota presents Ballet West on Sat, Oct 3 at 8:00 pm. The company that starred in the reality television show "Breaking Pointe" will present a sparkling repertoire accompanied by a full, live orchestra comprised of local musicians.

For over 50 years, Ballet West has been representing the very best in American classical ballet. While traditionally specializing in classical repertoires from the 19th century, the company has expanded to include works ranging from Ballet Russe to Fredrick Ashton to Twyla Tharp. Even the Deseret News says Ballet West's "execution of artistry is some of the best in the world."

In its Northrop debut, this dynamic troupe presents an unforgettable evening celebrating the style and grace of American music. The repertoire includes works from two of the most lauded choreographers of our time. Jerome Robbins' Fancy Free (the basis of the Broadway musical On The Town) follows the story of three sailors on shore leave as they take Manhattan by storm and is accompanied by a toe-tapping score by Leonard Bernstein.

Set to a medley of George Gershwin's greatest hits including "I've Got Rhythm," "Rhapsody in Blue," and "Embraceable You," George Balanchine's jazzy and romantic Who Cares? also evokes the joy and magic of Broadway.

Artistic Director Adam Sklute leads the company, which is comprised of over 40 dancers. Sklute is a former dancer, Ballet Master, and Associate Director of the Joffrey Ballet, and joined Ballet West in 2007.

Principal artists include Emily Adams, Katherine Lawrence, Christopher Ruud, Beckanne Sisk, Rex Tilton, and Arolyn Williams.
