New York Live Arts Presents Showing of Jimena Paz's UNTITLED This Weekend
New York Live Arts presents the Studio Series showing of Jimena Paz's Untitled, today, May 23 and Saturday, May 24 at 6:00pm in the third floor studios at New York Live Arts.
For Paz's Studio Series showing, she will present the work-in-progress of various sections of a collaborative work between herself and two established American choreographers. Working with the idea of "foreignness" and how each artist interprets the word within their own creative process, the points of departure for the collaboration are anecdotes and short stories from Paz's life in Argentina. Interested in looking at the "subculture" of her body, Paz examines movement and the dichotomy between schooled and unschooled, or self-taught, movement. The work, shown as a work-in-progress from the early stages of a long term project, sources material from improvisations created from key words used in the abovementioned anecdotes, magazine imagery and lesser known dance forms from Argentina.
Studio Series is supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
Studio Series work-in-process showings will take place in New York Live Arts' studios. Tickets are $5. There will be free in-process talks after each showing with an array of moderators.
