National Ballet of Canada's Robert Binet Creates New Full-Length Ballet for Theatre Ballet Moscow

Robert Binet, Choreographic Associate with The National Ballet of Canada, creates a new full-length ballet for Theatre Ballet Moscow, The Kreutzer Sonata. Based on Leo Tolstoy's novella of the same name,

The Kreutzer Sonata makes its world premiere June 1 - July 13, 2017 with five performances at The Meyerhold Theatre Centre in Moscow.

His first full-evening story ballet for Theatre Ballet Moscow, Mr. Binet's The Kreutzer Sonata features an original score by Gity Razaz, designs by Hyemi Shin, libretto by Britta Johnson and lighting by Konstantin Binkin.

A Toronto native, Mr. Binet was appointed Choreographic Associate with the National Ballet in 2013. He has created several works for the company including Self and Soul, Unearth and The Dreamers Ever Leave You which will tour to London, England in October 2017 as well as to Hamburg, Germany in 2018 as part of a mixed programme.

MAD HOT BALLET: Northern Lights, the National Ballet's annual fundraising evening on June 6, 2017 will feature Mr. Binet's Surge, originally created for Canada's National Ballet School, and The Sea Above, The Sky Below, a new work by Mr. Binet.

Prior to joining the National Ballet, Mr. Binet was the first-ever Choreographic Apprentice at The Royal Ballet where he was mentored by Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor. He shadowed Hamburg Ballet's Director and Chief Choreographer John Neumeier through the creation of a new ballet and created works for New York City Ballet, Dutch National Ballet's Junior Company and the Estonian National Ballet. Mr. Binet will be mentored by Artistic Director Karen Kain for the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Mentorship Program in 2017.
