Moving Target IN CONCERT Benefits Green Street Studios Programming Tonight

Tonight, March 22, 2014 at 8pm, Moving Target IN CONCERT turns the popular visiting artist class series into a performance benefitting Green Street Studios' Programming.

Moving Target is a weekly professional-level contemporary class series featuring master teachers and emerging artists of local, national and international acclaim. Curated since its founding in 2011 by Annie Kloppenberg and Lauren Simpson, the classes are knit together by an aesthetic sensibility and engagement in physical inquiry in a supportive and welcoming, but still rigorous environment.

The first Moving Target IN CONCERT represents a turn for the series, which looks at how the multiple, but overlapping approaches to training practices from week to week influence a project's creation and the sensibility of the performing body.

The concert features work by series curators, teachers, and students (professional dancers). Two open repertory projects celebrate the collaborative ethic of Moving Target. In addition to Boston-based artists Emily Beattie, Meghan McLyman, Caitlin Ewing, and series co-founders Annie Kloppenberg and Lauren Simpson, out-of-towners include Connecticut-based Heidi Henderson of elephantJANE Dance and The Bebe Miller Company, a new duet featuring Kellie Ann Lynch and Jenna RIegel, both of whom have performed in the last season at the ICA Boston in the companies of Adele Myers and Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane, work by the Vermont-based emerging artists of Hio Ridge Dance Collective, and an excerpt of the New Haven-based Elm City Dance Collective's Almost Porcelain.

The work selected is explicitly informed by each artist's connection to the Moving Target Series. For example, 25-year old dance artist Caitlin Ewing explains "as a young professional, this series expanded my idea of what it means to be a dance artist, locally and beyond," while Meghan McLyman, Associate Professor at Salem State, Moving Target teacher, and regular class attendee, wrote, "I find joy, exploration, and discovery each time I come [to Moving Target]. Every class influences my dancing and dance making, whether I am conscious of it or not. My body remembers the information better than my mind; I connect to my body, my mind, and my dance community in a way that is completely satisfying. I am refreshed, recharged, and renewed."

A benefit for Green Street Studios' vital dance programming, the concert is "pay what you can," but a suggested donation at the door of $20-30. No reservations. Tickets available at the door only.
