Making their first appearance in Purchase since their still-talked-about 2010 performance, the Martha Graham Dance Company will take the stage of the Concert Hall at The Performing Arts Center, Purchase College (SUNY) in Purchase, New York on Saturday, October 19, at 8pm, with a program of classic works choreographed by the legendary Martha Graham as well as pieces that are more recent additions to their repertoire.

The program will include two Graham classics Appalachian Spring and Maple Leaf Rag. The acclaimed 2009 addition to the repertoire, Lamentation Variations, will also be performed, featuring the choreography of Larry Keigwin, Richard Move, and Purchase College Conservatory of Dance Alum Doug Varone. Rounding out the evening will be the preview of a brand new work commissioned from Andonis Foniadakis.

This performance by the Martha Graham Dance Company opens The Performing Arts Center's 2013-2014 Dance Series, which also includes performances by Doug Varone and Dancers on November 9, Les Ballet Trockadero de Monte Carlo on April 12, and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet on May 4.

The Martha Graham Dance Company has been a leader in the development of contemporary dance since its founding by Miss Graham in 1926. Informed by the expansive vision of pioneering choreographer Martha Graham, the Company brings to life a timeless and uniquely American style of dance that has influenced generations of artists and continues to captivate audiences. Graham and her Company have expanded contemporary dance's vocabulary of movement and forever altered the scope of the art form by rooting works in contemporary social, political, psychological, and sexual contexts, deepening their impact and resonance.

Today, the Company continues to foster Graham's spirit of ingenuity. It is embracing a new programming vision that showcases masterpieces by Graham, her contemporaries, and their successors alongside newly commissioned works by contemporary artists inspired by Graham's legacy.

Tickets for the Martha Graham Dance Company are priced at $87.50 and $62.50 and are available at The Performing Arts Center's Box Office at 735 Anderson Hill Road in Purchase, NY; by phone at 914-251-6200; or 24/7 online at www.ArtsCenter.org.
