Luther Burbank Center for the Arts(The Center) welcomes the internationally acclaimed modern dance companyPilobolus on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 8 p.m. The avant-garde company - whose popularity has spread well beyond the world of dance - comes to Santa Rosa for one night only as a part of The Center's Rodney Strong Vineyard Dance Series. Pilobolus was founded by a group of Dartmouth College students in 1971 and, since their inception, has gone on to international acclaim creating over 120 original pieces of work over 40 years and performing in over 65 countries around the world including Australia, China, Brazil and Saudi Arabia. Pilobolus continually forms diverse collaborations that break down barriers between disciplines and challenge the way we think about dance. Physically and intellectually, the company engages and inspires audiences around the world through performance, education and creative collaboration. In recent years, Pilobolus has transformed into one of popular culture's most exciting entertainment brands. Pilobolus has been featured across the world including at the "79th Annual Academy Awards" (2007), on "Sesame Street," "Oprah," "60 Minutes" and "Late Night with Conan O' Brien." The unique and mesmerizing company has also been recognized with prestigious honors, including the Berlin Critic's Prize, the Scotsman Award, the Brandeis Award, the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement in Choreography, a TED Fellowship for presenting at the TED conference in 2005 and even a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Programming.
