Dancemakers 40th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser Set for 4/3

Dancemakers 40th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser Set for 4/3Dancemakers celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a Gala Fundraiser: Dancemakers: Past, Present and Future, on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Dancemakers Centre for Creation.

This experiential fundraising Gala will feature a powerful exhibition culled from Dancemaker's 40-year history, a performance of Michael Trent's new creation entitled AROUND, a discussion on the future of contemporary dance, and a major announcement about Dancemakers.

Beginning at 6:30pm with a generous serving of dinner-style appetizers and drinks, guests can explore Dancemakers past with a 40-year exhibition including archival materials, memorabilia, posters and video. Michael Trent's new creation, AROUND, featuring a company of ten dancers and a floor-to-ceiling curtain surrounding the performance space and audience, represents the present. Post-performance, bubbly and desserts will be served, as Dancemakers draws back the veil on its future by inviting guests to discuss contemporary dance with artists from Dancemakers Emerging Dance Artists Project, 'speed dating' style.

For the finale, Dancemakers will make a mind-blowing announcement that will alter the way Dancemakers, and the communities they have served for 40 years, are perceived.

Most of all, Dancemakers promises an extraordinary night of celebration and promise!

Dancemakers presents the world premiere of AROUND, March 26-April 6, 2014, at the Dancemakers Centre for Creation. Created by Michael Trent and the Dancemakers resident company, AROUND marks the first time artists from the Dancemaker's Emerging Dance Artist Project have participated in the creation and presentation of a mainstage performance. Presented in the round, AROUND delves into the poetic and prosaic nature of encounters, providing an evocative and intimate opportunity for cultural exchange.
