TOES (The Outreach and Exchange Strategy) FOR DANCE will present two innovative contemporary dance productions; first the Mixed-Program; entrances and exits: an evening of short contemporary dances and excerpts in November (14-15 at the Betty Oliphant Theatre), followed by a Festival of full-length works in December (11-13 at the Aki Studio in the Daniels Spectrum), both showcasing local and international artists.
The annual Mixed-Program, hot off a sold-out showcase in NYC last month, presents a dozen dance collaborators from across North America performing in several short (2X12 minute) dance works. The Mixed-Program acts as a tasting menu of dance, and teaser for the full-length works at the December Festival.
TOES FOR DANCE Directors David Norsworthy and Kristen Carcone started out at Cawthra Park Secondary School in Mississauga. Both went on to become international dance sensations: David graduated from and choreographs at the World renowned Juilliard School in New York City, and Kristen attended the New World School of the Arts in Miami.
Kristen and David regularly visit North American art high schools to encourage new and emerging choreographers. They teach over 2000 students a year!
Now the TOES FOR DANCE Artistic Directors want to encourage emerging dance lovers within the audience. TOES FOR DANCE uses an interactive 'informance' strategy; a combination of presentation and performance for audience members to learn about the creation and appreciation of contemporary dance. The Informances offer new entry points for audiences to enter the world of dance, without it being scary!
