Cleveland School of Dance Presents Russian Elegance, 4/21

The Cleveland School of Dance, the official school of the Cleveland Ballet, presents their spring show Russian Elegance at PlayhouseSquare on Saturday, April 21st at 7:00 p.m. The performance will take place in the Ohio Theatre and will exhibit dancers from the school. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online at PlayhouseSquare.org or by calling the ticket office at (216) 241-6000.

Ballet dancers will perform four pieces to the music of Russian composers: Borodin, Glazanov, Prokofiev and Rimsky-Korsakov. The performance will run 90 minutes, including a 20 minute intermission.

Cleveland School of Dance is the direct "descendant" of the School of Cleveland Ballet. Many faculty members were dancers or otherwise associated with The Cleveland Ballet and Cleveland San Jose Ballet.

Cleveland School of Dance graduates have been placed in local, national and international ballet and dance companies, or have pursued collegiate arts study. In all instances, students enjoy the rewards of dedication, desire and discipline as they become successful young adults.

Founder and Artistic Director of Cleveland School of Dance, Gladisa Guadalupe was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and started her training with Ballet de San Juan, becoming one the company’s youngest members. A Scholarship Alumna of the School of American Ballet, the official training academy of the New York City Ballet, Ms. Guadalupe studied under the celebrated George Balanchine, father of American ballet and of the modern ballet movement. After her studies Ms. Guadalupe forwarded to a career in professional ballet. She has performed under choreographers George Balanchine, Dennis Nahat, Ian Horvath, Margot Sappington, Ana Garcia, John Butler, Choo San Goh and Louis Falco. Ms. Guadalupe’s career as a Principal Dancer has included work with Ballet De San Juan (Puerto Rico), Ballet Nuevo Mundo de Caracas (Caracas, Venezuela), The Cleveland - San Jose Ballet (San Jose, California and Cleveland, Ohio USA) and The Cleveland Ballet (Cleveland, Ohio USA). She has toured North and South America, Asia and Europe.
