With the success of this year's Academy Award-winning Best Picture, "Slumdog Millionaire," Bollywood, the informal term popularly used for the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai, India, has become all the rage around the world. And the world of dance has received a second wind as a result. Now celebrating its 10th Anniversary, Southern California's own critically acclaimed Bollywood specialists, blue13 dance company (blue13), under the direction of Achinta S. McDaniel, continue to perform to Sold Out audiences all over Los Angeles, nationally and abroad. The company is generously sponsored by the International Dance Academy - Hollywood, LA's newest hotspot for all things dance, where popular television shows like, "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Randy Jackson' America's Best Dance Crew" are filmed.
Since 1999, blue13 has performed both onstage and on screen, in a variety of genres, including McDaniel's signature Bollywood-Tech and Neo-Kathak styles, as well as in Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Fire Dance, Aerial Arts and more.
Aside from choreographing dance extravaganzas for the stage, Achinta S. McDaniel is a seasoned and sought after dance teacher in the Southland. This summer McDaniel will offer a variety her dance classes at local venues like Swerve, MnR Dance Factory, UCLA and the International Dance Academy. Stay physically fit and make it an Indian summer!

Achinta S. McDaniel (Artistic Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Teacher) is a pioneer of mixed genre contemporary dance in the United States, working as a leading choreographer both on stage and on camera throughout the nation for over 10 years. In 1999, she founded blue13 dance company, and has since enjoyed great success in creating live, critically acclaimed dance productions internationally in her signature styles, Neo-Kathak
TM and Bollywood-Tech
TM. A prolific choreographer, performer, and instructor, McDaniel's powerful style encompasses techniques from ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, and hip-hop, to Bollywood, Bhangra, African, Moroccan, and classical Indian Kathak. McDaniel was a 2008 Lester Horton Dance Award nominee in the choreography - long form category for her contemporary epic, "Six, Fifteen and Everything Senseless." As a dance teacher, McDaniel conducts special interactive workshops for schools, private events, corporations and more. As a choreographer, she offers choreographic services for corporate events, special events and couples' first dance wedding choreography.
Dance education is central to blue13 dance company's long-term community goals. Under the umbrella of blue 13, Artistic Director Achinta S. McDaniel created The Blue School in 2003. Since then, she has been teaching Los Angeles' longest running popular Bollywood dance classes at venues like Swerve (in Los Angeles), International Dance Acadmey (in Hollywood) - a sponsor of blue13 dance company, MnR Dance Factory (in Brentwood) and at UCLA (in Westwood).
In 2008, the company embarked in its first international tour to cities including Rabat, Morocco and Paris, France. Upcoming blue13 projects include the touring production of blue13's "PAHELIYAN: The Story of Alice," slated for the 2010/11 season. In the last month blue13 company members appeared on the national television show, "The Doctors." Blue13 dance company members will also appear on an upcoming episode of MTV's "Parental Control." The International Dance Academy (IDA) - Hollywood is a new dance facility located in the heart of Hollywood, just one block away from the world famous Kodak Theatre. The facility includes five deluxe dance studios offering open classes in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-Hop, Swing, Salsa, Bollywood, Belly Dancing and many more.
