Ballet San Jose will present choreographer Karen Gabay's staging of the holiday classic The Nutcracker--which received its acclaimed premiere last season-in 11 performances December 13 through 26 at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. The production features nearly 100 performers, live music with Ballet San Jose Music Director George Daugherty conducting Symphony Silicon Valley, sets by Paul Kelly and costumes by Broadway legend Theoni V. Aldredge. Gabay's staging takes much of its inspiration from the traditional E.T.A. Hoffmann story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, but features subtle but decidedly feminist underpinnings and brims with bravura dancing and seasonal charm. Performances will be given Friday, December 13, at 7 pm; Saturday, December 14, at 1:30 and *7 pm; Sunday, December 15, at *1:30 pm; Friday, December 20, at *7 pm, Saturday, December 21, at 1:30 and 7 pm; Sunday, December 22, at 1:30 pm; Monday, December 23, at 1:30 pm; Tuesday, December 24, at *1:30 pm; and Thursday, December 26, 1:30 pm (*special Family-Priced tickets available.)
