Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is considered a pioneering and innovative American dance company, blurring the lines between ballet and modern dance. The troupe regularly commissions new works, often by emerging choreographers, giving the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet an open and exploratory style. A highlight of the Omaha engagement will be the performance of the commissioned work "Square None," by Norbert De La Cruz III. A review by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch described the number: "Set to an eclectic score, with lighting that evoked moods from the eerie to the joyous, 'Square None' made imaginative use of the dancers' athleticism in its pursuit of abstraction. But the piece also yielded moments of grace that suggested that De La Cruz is as much a poet as he is a craftsman..."

"We value building relationships with choreographers who become integral to the company. The natural beauty of our surroundings has a profound impact on creativity and our choreographers find it inspiring to create here," said Tom Mossbrucker, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's artistic director.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet was founded in 1996 by Bebe Schweppe, who invited Mossbrucker and Jean-Philippe Malaty to create a ballet company in Aspen. Four years later, the Colorado-based ballet company forged a dual-city relationship with Santa Fe, N.M., broadening its scope and creating a roster of arts activities takes wing, year-round, in both cities. The troupe performs worldwide and anticipates celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016.
