The Lakeshore retirement community in south Seattle is hosting an art exhibition and gala to celebrate Black History Month today, February 3, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to enjoy the art show and complimentary hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and live music by Spectrum.

The show, curated by June Sekiguchi, features art by Valerie Collymore, Al Dogget, Aramis O. Hamer, Robert Horton, Adrienne LaFaye, McAlister Merchant, Eric Salisbury and Carletta Carrington Wilson.

"Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans in the evolution of our country. African American art has made a major impact on our culture, so we are proud to be able to show some fine examples of that art in our exhibition," says Sekiguchi.

If you are interested in attending the gala, it is recommended that you RSVP to (206) 772-1200 by January 31, 2016. The Lakeshore is located at 11448 Rainier Avenue S., Seattle, WA, 98178.
