West Palm Beach, Fla. -- The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts recently announced the cancellation of Blaze: The International Dance Spectacular due to scheduling conflicts. Scheduled for today and tomorrow, February 2-3 in the Marshall E. Rinker, Sr. Playhouse, the PEAK presentation is being replaced by Che Malambo, the powerhouse all-male dance company from Argentina that has excited audiences around the world with this percussive dance and music spectacle.

Created by renowned choreographer Gilles Brinas, this show is a dynamic blend of precision footwork, rhythmic stomping, drumming and song, Malambo is at the heart of the gaucho (South American cowboy) tradition. It began in the 17th century as competitive duels that tested skills of agility, strength and dexterity among the gaucho. It soon evolved to include its hallmark, zapeteo, the fast-paced footwork inspired by the rhythm of galloping horses. In addition, Malambo features the drumming of traditional Argentine bombos and whirling boleadoras, a throwing weapon made up of intertwined cords and weighted with stones.

This PEAK performance is made possible by a grant from the MLDauray Arts Initiative in honor of Leonard and Sophie Davis. Attendees are invited to Beyond the Stage, a free pre-performance discussion by Steven Caras tonight, February 2 at 6:15 pm in the Picower Foundation Arts Education Center.

Kravis Center patrons who had previously purchased tickets, can retain the same tickets they were assigned for Blaze: The International Dance Spectacular to see Che Malambo, or they can contact the box office for further information.

Tickets for Che Malambo are $32 and may be purchased at the Kravis Center's box office, 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in downtown West Palm Beach; online through the Kravis Center's official website at kravis.org; or by phone at 561-832-7469 or 800-572-8471.
