Apollo Theater Hosts BREAKIN' CONVENTION Hip Hop Dance Festival, Now thru 6/16

This summer, the legendary Apollo Theater is partnering with Sadler's Wells, the UK's leading dance house, to present the U.S. premiere of Breakin' Convention, an international Hip Hop dance theater festival based in London. The festival will celebrate its 10-year anniversary at the Apollo from today, June 13th - June 16th, bringing a taste of Hip Hop dance theater culture to Harlem. Emceed by Breakin' Convention's Artistic Director and Sadler's Wells Associate Artist, Jonzi D. and Hip Hop legend, MC Lyte, this pioneering international festival will bring individual dance artists, dance companies and emerging artists from across the globe as well as U.S. and local dance crews.

Confirmed artists include: Jonzi D, Storyboard P (Brooklyn/US), the duo Company Sébastien Ramirez (German/France), ensemble Boy Blue (UK), Rennie Harris Puremovement (Philadelphia/US), Decadance(NYC/US), FootworKINGz (Chicago/US), Next Level Squad (NYC/US) soloists Frank Ejara (Brazil) and Jane Sekonya (South Africa/UK), the world's best b-boys from Korea, Project Soul Collective, with local favorites: Beast Coast, Ephrat Asherie Dance, Dynamic Rockers, In Da Clutch Dance Crew, and The Wondertwins.

This event will mark the Apollo's first global festival bringing a mix of world renowned performers including local DJ's who will create the party atmosphere under the Apollo's marquee and in the lobby areas, spinning old school tunes with graffiti artists commissioned to create unique artwork. Additionally, performances, workshops and panel discussions led by pioneers in the Hip Hop dance field will take place on the Apollo's Mainstage and Soundstage.

Breakin' Convention will take place at the Apollo Theater, 253 W 125th St. / New York, NY 10027. *Ticket prices range from $15 - $38 (not including package prices). The festival runs tonight, June 13th - Sunday, June 16th. Schedule of events can be found at breakinconvention.com/nyc.
