Alvin Ailey's Season Continues This Week with REVELATIONS, GRACE, and STRANGE HUMORS

This week is the final opportunity this season to experience Alvin Ailey's masterpiece Revelations with live music - African American spirituals performed by soul-stirring vocalists - as well as with an expanded cast of 50 dancers on Saturday’s family matinee! In addition to the opening of a new production of Ronald K. Brown’s landmark Grace on Tuesday, December 11th, other upcoming performance highlights include "All New" programs and the Company premiere of Artistic Director Robert Battle's Strange Humors.

Ailey will pack this season’s premieres and new productions into five exhilarating all new programs. Ailey dancers will move audiences with their brilliant artistry and passionate spirit in a series of works that add dynamic choreographic voices to the repertory. Programming includes Garth Fagan’s From Before, Ji?í Kylián’s Petite Mort, Robert Battle’s Strange Humors, Ronald K. Brown’s Grace and Kyle Abraham’s Another Night. These performances are on December 13, December 16 (evening), December 19, December 26 (evening), and December 30 (matinee).
A portion of proceeds from the December 16 performance will benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS.

This weekend fans can enjoy the added thrill of Alvin Ailey’s American modern dance classic, Revelations, with a full choir and band and a special Saturday family matinee performance that also includes an expanded cast of 50 dancers with members of Ailey II and The Ailey School (December 15 mat). Performances are on December 14 and December 15 (matinee and evening.)

Artistic Director Robert Battle sets his thrillingly intense duet, Strange Humors, on the Company this season. This riveting premiere pits two men against each other in surprising sequences that ignite with aggression and discord as the relationship between the two dancers builds to an exciting crescendo. Strange Humors is set to a propulsive score for strings and African drum by composer John Mackey, a fellow Juilliard classmate of Mr. Battle. This premiere will be presented on Wednesday, December 12.
