With direction by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreography by Josh Rhodes, Bright Star began performances on February 25th and opens officially tonight, March 24th, 2016 at at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). Carmen Cusack makes her Broadway debut as Alice, a role she originated in BRIGHT STAR's world premiere production in San Diego, and is joined by co-stars Paul Alexander Nolan, Tony Award nominee Michael Mulheren, A.J. Shively,Hannah Elless, Tony Award nominee Stephen Bogardus, three-time Tony Award nominee Dee Hoty, Stephen Lee Anderson, Emily Padgett, Tony Award nominee Jeff Blumenkrantz, along with Maddie Shea Baldwin, Allison Briner-Dardenne, Max Chernin, Patrick Cummings, Sandra DeNise, Richard Gatta, Lizzie Klemperer, Michael X. Martin,William Michals, Tony Roach, Sarah Jane Shanks and William Youmans.

Inspired by a real event, this original musical tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and '40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past - and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

Gary Griffin), Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus) and The Who's Tommy (Cousin Kevin).

HANNAH ELLESS

Elless returns to Broadway after making her debut in the revival of Stephen Schwartz's Godspell. TV/Film: "Glee" (FOX), The Lake Effect,Before Winter and the upcoming film When Mary Met Ally. Off-B'way: The Other Josh Cohen. Select theatre: Hamlet (Ophelia), Phaedra(Aricia), Henry V (Katharine), Private Lives (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre). Ms. Elless is also an accomplished musician, playing more than six instruments. For my Grandfather.

STEPHEN BOGARDUS

Bogardus has appeared on Broadway in Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Old Acquaintance, Man of La Mancha, James Joyce's The Dead, High Society, King David, Love! Valour! Compassion! (Tony nom., Obie Award), Falsettos, The Grapes of Wrath, LES MISERABLES, and West Side Story. DEE HOTY
(Mama Murphy)

Hoty played Aunt Alicia in Gigi on Broadway last season. She earned Tony nominations for starring roles in Footloose, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, and The Will Rogers Follies. Dee starred on Broadway and in eight major U.S. cities as Donna in Mamma Mia!More Broadway: Bye Bye Birdie (Roundabout), City of Angels (Outer Critics Circle Nominations), Me and My Girl, Big River, The Five O'Clock Girl and Shakespeare's Cabaret.
