The West End production remains as sold-out and beloved as ever, and rumors have long been circulating that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will make a Broadway transfer. Now, according to Page Six, the eight Harry Potter story will make its debut at the Al Hirschfeld next season. Currently home to the long-running Kinky Boots, if Cursed Child were to move into the Al Hirschfeld, it would be a major score for Jujamcyn, which has already announced that the expected Disney juggernaut, Frozen, will move into the St. James following a major renovation to accommodate Elsa'a ice castle. After winning a Tony Award for her performance as Hedwig's husband, Yitzhak, in the Broadway revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, originally starring Neil Patrick Harris, Lena Hall stayed with the production through three more Hedwigs. Now, she's joined the national tour in her iconic role, but tonight, she takes an even more legendary step: For the first time in history, the role of Hedwig and Yitzhak will be played by the same actor within a production. Hall will steps into the international song stylist's shoes for one performance per week, while her understudy will perform the role of Yitzhak.  (more...)


7) Lin-Manuel-Hosted SNL Episode Receives Highest Ratings in Slot Since 2008

Last night, Broadway superstar, Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted Saturday Night Live to great acclaim. Although some may have doubted whether someone whose fame stems from a theatre career would have the star wattage necessary to pull in a nationwide audience, the ratings have proven otherwise! According to CarterMatt: 'As a whole, the show drew a 5.2 household rating on average, which ties the best total for a second episode since James Franco hosted all the way back with Kings of Leon in 2008. Meanwhile, its 18-49 demo rating of a 2.4 is the best for the show since 2013, which is when Miley Cyrus served as both the host and the musical guest for the evening.' This bodes well not only for Mr. Miranda, but hopefully for the future of other theatre industry powerhouses and crossover talents, such as Laura Benanti, receiving hosting spots as well! (more...)

After taking on the role of Grizabella after pop star Nicole Scherzinger decided to depart the revival in favor of being a judge on The X Factor, Lewis joined the production in time for the Broadway transfer, which opened July 31st.
