Third Eye Theatre Ensemble Presents First Ever Opera at Chicago Fringe Festival

Third Eye Theatre Ensemble will present The Filthy Habit, the first opera ever performed at the Chicago Fringe Festival, opening Saturday, September 3rd at 7 pm with additional performances on Monday, September 5th at 2:30 pm and Friday, September 9th at 8:30 pm. All performance will take place at the CCJP Meeting Hall at 5320 W. Giddings, in Jefferson Park. Tickets are $10.

Chicago librettist Matt Boresi, alongside composer Peter Hilliard, bring to life The Filthy Habit, a comic opera that tells the story of a newlywed couple's struggle with Mayor Bloomberg's smoking ban. With a jazz score accompanied by a close harmony trio of singers serving as Greek chorus, Habit is an entertaining look at honesty and compromise in relationships.

When asked why Third Eye selected The Filthy Habit artistic director Rena Ahmed said, "We wanted to showcase a local writer (Matt Boresi) and we thought The Filthy Habit would be a fun piece to perform at the Fringe Festival. It's very relatable because almost everyone has hid something from a significant other at some point. How we deal with those challenges determines the strength of our relationships."

Ahmed was excited to announce that Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi will be giving a talkback after the September 3rd performance. "They tell us they are highly entertaining. You might even be able to ask them about their own filthy habits," Ahmed said.
