The Boxcar Children is coming to Laguna! The Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre presents this production on-stage beginning Friday, November 11 through Sunday November 20 at the Laguna Playhouse Moulton Theatre, The Boxcar Children will be directed by Bethanie Knieser, with musical direction by Mark Turnbull.

Audiences will be inspired by this 'Beloved Children's Classic' of four orphaned siblings who discover the rewards and perils of a life of independence while hiding out in an abandoned boxcar they find in the forest. THE BOXCAR CHILDREN is named "Teacher's Top 100 books for Children" by the national Education Association.

The cast of THE BOXCAR CHILDREN features actors from the Laguna Beach and the Orange County area. Aidan Russell as Henry Alden, Faith Ackley and Samia El-Erian double in the role of Jessie Alden, Isabella Saunders plays Violet Alden and Lane Bucher plays Benny Alden. Holden Moll returns to The Playhouse in the role of Officer Banning, Victoria Spelman plays Miss Alberts, Jackie Melbon plays the Social Worker Sarah Calder, Christopher Yusi plays Dr. Sam Truman, Myrenna Ogbu plays the Baker's wife, Victoria McGinnis is Mrs. Truman, and Laura Flores is Mrs. Alden (the children's grandmother). Other youth cast members include: Jayden Goodman as Cookie, Quinton Yusi as Big Mike, Katie Palino as Jo, Benji Jenkins as the Kid. Hooverville residents and singers include: Giovanna Cecutti, Jake Donello, Sophia Haslett, Sophia Pachl, Bridget Phillips, Abigail Williams, and Trevor Yusi.

THE BOXCAR CHILDREN will perform on Friday, November 11 at 7pm; Saturday November 12 at Noon & 5pm; Sunday, November 13 at Noon & 5pm;
Friday; School Day Matinees at 10am on Thursday, November 17 and Friday November 18; November 18 at 7pm: Saturday, November 19 at Noon & 5pm;
Sunday, November 20 Noon & 5pm at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Founded in 1920, The Laguna Playhouse is one of the oldest continuously-operating theatres on the West Coast. In 2011, The Laguna Playhouse was honored at the Laguna Spirit Awards and received The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce Premiere Business of the Year award. More than 100,000 theatergoers annually attend performances at the Laguna Playhouse. Its continued artistic excellence, audience popularity and critical acclaim have helped make The Playhouse one of Southern California's most important nonprofit theatre companies. The Playhouse has produced national tours of The Belle of Amherst (with Julie Harris) and Copenhagen, and has presented many world, national and regional premieres.

Notable performers that have performed at The Laguna Playhouse include Bette Davis, Harrison Ford, Charles Durning, Marlo Thomas, Roddy McDowell, Rita Rudner, Cloris Leachman, and Sally Struthers.

The Laguna Playhouse is noted for its Youth Theater Education and Outreach programs. In 2008 The Youth Theatre was awarded "Outstanding Contribution to Education" by the Orange County Department of Education and In 1989, its Youth Theater was recognized as "Outstanding Children's Theatre" by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. The theater's touring program, TheatreReach, brings books to life on stage for elementary school children throughout southern California in May 2014.
