Jeremy, a Harvard-educated physicist, has built a time machine to send his cousin Mimi back to the Civil War to bring Harriet Tubman a bunch of guns. But when Mimi gets sent back to the wrong time, history sets off on a different course.

History Herself is our guide in this new play by Sigrid Gilmer that is as socially conscious as it is riotous in its send up of genre and form. Mashing together action adventure blockbuster with historical southern melodrama, HARRY & THE THIEF asks: When destiny calls, will you rise up?

"In our current political climate we constantly re-engage with figures, events, and movements from the past," says producer Caroline Gart. "HARRY & THE THIEF asks 'What would happen if history's underdogs took control of the narrative?' and looks at the stories we've inherited and invented about slavery, abolitionism, the antebellum South, and the revered Harriet Tubman." HARRY & THE THIEF is as funny as it is provoking, prompting audiences to question assumptions about what is truth and what is myth.

SIGRID GILMER (playwright)
Sigrid Gilmer makes black comedies that are historically bent, totally perverse, joyfully irreverent and are concerned with issues of identity, pop culture and contemporary American society. Her work has been performed at the Skylight Theatre, Pavement Group, Know Theatre of Cincinnati, Cornerstone Theater Company, Highways Performance Space and The Strand Theatre in Baltimore. KATIE LINDSAY (director)
Katie Lindsay is a New-York based director who works on daring and imaginative new plays. As the Artistic Director of The Habitat, Katie directs and produces highly collaborative work that focuses on female artists and stories about women. With The Habitat, Katie has directed and developed work by playwrights such as Molly Beach Murphy, Siler Buckley, Julia Izumi, Blake Bishton, and Matthew Capodicasa. Other credits include Neighborhood 3 (Atlantic Acting School), Conviction (Rubicon Theatre, Ventura), CC Dances the Go-Go, Wedding Play (Williamstown Theatre Festival), and H20 Pool Bar at the San Luis Hotel (Access Theater). Katie has directed new work for The Flea, Fresh Ground Pepper, Exquisite Corps Company, Ugly Rhino and Vox Theater. As an assistant director, Katie has worked with PigPen Theatre Co. & Stuart Carden, Eric Ting & Branden Jacobs Jenkins, and Daniel Goldstein. She is an alumna of New York Theatre Workshop's literary internship, Williamstown's Directing Corps, and The Kennedy Center Directing Intensive. Caroline Gart currently works in the four time Tony Award winning producing office, Harriet Leve Productions.
