The Habitat presents HARRY & THE THIEF, written by Sigrid Gilmer and directed by Katie Lindsay, running May 19 - June 4 at the Robert Moss Theater. Travel back in time. Find Harriet Tubman. Don't fuck it up.

Jeremy, a Harvard-educated physicist, has built a time machine to send his cousin Mimi back to the Civil War to bring Harriet Tubman a bunch of guns. But when Mimi gets sent back to the wrong time, history sets off on a different course.

History Herself is our guide in this new play by Sigrid Gilmer that is as socially conscious as it is riotous in its send up of genre and form. Mashing together action adventure blockbuster with historical southern melodrama, HARRY & THE THIEF asks: When destiny calls, will you rise up?

"In our current political climate we constantly re-engage with figures, events, and movements from the past," says producer Caroline Gart. "HARRY & THE THIEF asks 'What would happen if history's underdogs took control of the narrative?' and looks at the stories we've inherited and invented about slavery, abolitionism, the antebellum South, and the revered Harriet Tubman." HARRY & THE THIEF is as funny as it is provoking, prompting audiences to question assumptions about what is truth and what is myth.

HARRY & THE THIEF features Shyko Amos*, Ngozi Anyanwu*, Mieke D, Tesiana Elie*, Shelley Fort*, Brough Hansen*, Antwayn Hopper*, Miles G. Jackson*, and Eric Lockley*. HARRY & THE THIEF is written by Sigrid Gilmer, directed by Katie Lindsay, produced by Caroline Gart with costume design by Anna Grigo, sound design by Valentine Monfuega, scenic design by Lawrence E. Moten III, lighting design by Jeanette Yew. Production managed by Lauren Fiorelli, stage management by Jenn Jacobs and assistant directed by Diane Chen. *Appearing courtesy of the Actors Equity Association
