The new Broadway musical AN AMERICAN IN PARIS opened April 12 at the Palace Theatre. Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS brings this classic tale to Broadway for the first time with music and lyrics by George Gershwinand Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas. GYPSY opened April 15 at the Savoy Theatre. The West End transfer of Jonathan Kent's production stars Imelda Staunton as the indomitable Momma Rose and Lara Pulver and Gemma Sutton who reprise their roles of Louise and June, respectively, and Peter Davison joins the cast as Herbie. Monday, we got a first look at the cast of SOMETHING ROTTEN! in action. The completely original, new musical comedy, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and best-selling author John O'Farrell, is now in previews with opening night set for April 22 at the St. James Theatre. The two-time Tony Award winning hilarious hit comedy 39 STEPS opened April 13 at the Union Square Theatre Off-Broadway. The cast of 39 STEPS features original Broadway cast member Arnie Burton as Clown #2, as well as Billy Carter as Clown #1, Broadway vet Robert Petkoff as the dashing hero Richard Hannay, and Brittany Vicars as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret in her New York City stage debut. Nathan Lane was honored April 13 at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's 15th Annual Monte Cristo Awards at the Edison Ballroom in New York City. The Public Theater presented a special 40th anniversary tribute to A CHORUS LINE April 16 in honor of the first performance of the legendary musical which premiered in The Public's Newman Theater 40 years ago. To commemorate this landmark event, the cast of the critically-acclaimed musical HAMILTON, currently playing on the same Newman stage, presented original cast members of A CHORUS LINE with a plaque that will hang in the Ford Foundation Lobby of The Public.
