Called "man of many talents," by The New York Times, Ethan Lipton (No Place to Go, Tumacho) returns to The Public with THE OUTER SPACE, a new adventure in bittersweet and hilariously off-kilter storytelling. With music composed and performed by Lipton, Vito Dieterle, Eben Levy and Ian Riggs, THE OUTER SPACE follows two humans who buy an old spaceship, leaving the noise, pollution and overpriced rents of Earth for the vast beauty and treacherous terrain of the final frontier. But can they survive the mission? Leigh Silverman (No Place to Go, Well, Violet) directs this out-of-this-world musical about the impossible quest to create a sustainable life. The New York Times describes The Outer Space as "artful and adept," and "just delightful!"

House of SpeakEasy returns in its the fifth season of Seriously Entertaining, a literary series, at Joe's Pub. Produced and hosted by its founders, award-winning historian Amanda Foreman and editor Lucas Wittmann, Seriously Entertaining presents highly-acclaimed writers from across the arts riffing 10 minutes on each show's given theme. The thrill and intimacy of these live performances deepens the audience connection to each writer's work and life. This April's theme is The End My Friend featuring guests Ana Marie Cox (political columnist and culture critic), Brenda Shaughnessy (poet), Tony Tulathimutte (novelist) and Travon Free (author and television writer).

Following the release of Healer, Alex Cuba's fourth studio album, it has been an eventful year. He opened for Sheryl Crow two nights in Hollywood Bowl, won the singer songwriter category at the Latin Grammys 2015 and was nominated for the Latin Pop category at the 2016 Grammys. All this from the small town in northern Canada where Alex Cuba has lived and independently produced music for 12 years. After completing tours in Canada and making best of lists for NPR and CBC for Healer for 2015 Alex celebrated Canada Day in Ottawa playing for Prime Minister Trudeau and made 1M streams on Spotify for the single "Sarah." Musical Theatre Factory proudly presents Lift Every Voice to bring exciting musical theater writers of color from the margins to the center stage. Joe McGinty and The Loser's Lounge play a very special tribute to celebrated singer-songwriter and late icon George Michael. The Losers are a New York City-based band that started out playing small clubs on the Lower East Side in 1993. Now in their 23rd year, the band performs every other month at Joe's Pub, plus shows at Lincoln Center, selling out regularly. Known for their incredible interpretations of classics, the Losers have grown into a unique performance experience that combines music, comedy and cabaret. Like an Indian Ocean blast from the seaport megacity it calls home, Sounds of Kolachi, a new 10-piece super group of vocalists and instrumentalists from Karachi, Pakistan blurs raga and Western harmony, counterpoint and South Asian melodic lines, all without losing the groove. South Asian classical instruments like the sitar and bowed sarangi are on equal footing with electric guitar and rock rhythm section. Billy Hough and Susan Goldberg return to Joe's Pub with a "guide to surviving" these impossible times, with special guests Jeremy Gustin (Albert Hammond Jr), Matt Hough (GarageDogs) and Lili Taylor. This one-time only show, built solely around Billy's original songs, includes hits from GarageDogs, the films of Oren Moverman and his and Sue Goldberg's classic album "Venice."

Named for Public Theater founder Joe Papp, Joe's Pub at The Public opened in 1998 and plays a vital role in The Public's mission of supporting young artists while providing established artists with an intimate space to perform and develop new work. Joe's Pub presents the best in live music and performance nightly, continuing its commitment to diversity, production values, community and artistic freedom. The organization also offers unique opportunities like New York Voices, an artist commissioning program that provides musicians the resources and tools needed to develop original theater works. The Public Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, is the only theater in New York that produces Shakespeare, the classics, musicals, contemporary and experimental pieces in equal measure.
