Elitch Gardens, now in its 21st year downtown since relocating from northwest Denver, remains one of Colorado's the most popular entertainment destinations. It now features a vast array of modern roller-coasters, and because many of "The 12" cast members from the DCPA Theatre Company are thrill-ride aficionados, the staff at Elitch's invited cast members Tuesday to ride the famous Carousel, which dates back to 1927 - and two coaster rides: The Brain Drain and the Boomerang. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts presents the world premiere of THE 12, a brand new rock musical with book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Robert Schenkkan and music and lyrics by Neil Berg. The show began on March 27, and runs through April 26.

The cast features Terence Archie (John), Mike Backes (Swing), Jeannette Bayardelle (Mother Mary), Anthony Fedorov (Andrew), Colby Foytik (Jimmy), Colin Hanlon (Pete), Jordan Leigh (Matt), Andrew Mayer (Bart), Christina Sajous (Mary Magdalene), Maximilian Sangerman (Thad), Heath Saunders (Swing), Jordan Barbour (James), Brad Standley (Phil),Gregory Treco (Simon), Tony Vincent (Tom) and Erin Willis (Swing).

On the creative team are music director Michael Mancini, music supervisor Wendy Bobbitt Cavett, scenic designerJohn Iacovelli, costume designer Denitsa Bliznakova, lighting designer Lap Chi Chu and sound designer Zach Williamson.

Past incarnations of the production include a one-night-only concert version staged at B.B King Blues Club in Manhattan in August 2011. The cast included Tony Vincent (American Idiot), Sophia Ramos, Michael Lanning, Elaine Caswell, Ron Bohmer (Phantom of the Opera), Capathia Jenkins (The Civil War), Lawrence Clayton (Dreamgirls) andDustin Brayley (Rent). A workshop of The 12 took place at the Signature Theatre in New York City in June 2013.
