In Maxwell Anderson's 1933 political satire Both Your Houses, a straight-laced young congressman's outlandish plan is bound to save Congress from itself! Or is it?Remy Bumppo will present Anderson's Pulitzer Prize winner as the opening production of its 18th season. Press Opening is Monday, October 6 at 7:00 pm at the Greenhouse Theater Center. The production will run throughout the lead-up to the 2014 midterm elections, in which 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 seats in the Senate will be up for re-election.

Stunningly timely, Both Your Houses captures the charm and fervor of the classic film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and hit television series The West Wing, while simultaneously challenging the plausibility of change a la The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight. In a non-partisan approach, Anderson addresses many of the issues that Congress faces today including the functionality of Congressional committees, the limits of Presidential power, and even women's reproductive rights. This production is especially exciting for Remy Bumppo as it welcomes Artistic Director Emeritus James Bohnen back to direct for the first time in three years."I am proud and happy about where the company is and where it seems to be headed," says Bohnen, "And I very much like my new life as a bookstore owner who every so often directs a play." Producing Artistic Director Nick Sandys says that while the last three years have been important for the company in establishing its identity without James' artistic leadership, it has always been the intention for James to come back and direct.

"We're thrilled and honored to have James back at Remy Bumppo to helm the season opener," says Sandys, "I am intrigued to see how much we have grown as a company and how James as a director molds that new energy. His sly wit and warm intelligence are a perfect match for this play." With Bohnen's proven history of success with large ensembles and clever dialogue, audiences are sure to enjoy this window into our political past, present, and - more than likely - future. The Remy Bumppo cast of fourteen includes Artistic Associates David Darlow and Linda Gillum and Ensemble Members Peter A. Davis and Eliza Stoughton. Others in the cast are Chris Amos, Larry Baldacci, Jesse Dornan, Scott Egleston, James Houton, Peter Eli Johnson, Brian Parry, Joanna Riopelle, Noah Simon, and Paul Tinsley. Both Your Houses will be performed October 1, 2014, through November 9, 2014, at the Greenhouse Theater Center at 2257 N. Lincoln Ave in Chicago. Tickets are on sale now at www.RemyBumppo.org or by calling the Greenhouse at 773.404.7336.
