Registration for the Young Actor Musical Theater Preparatory Program at Playhouse on Park is now open! Running from July 13-July 24, this summer program gives children entering grades three through eight instruction in acting, dance, and music.

Each day will be jam-packed with classes and rehearsals. Students will receive one on one attention in small groups and also as an entire ensemble. The emphasis of the program is on developing strong performance skills. As part of that goal, each student will be featured in a final performance as a singer, actor, and dancer. Students will develop their own pieces, and will have a chance to perform their own "creative projects" for their peers in the program each Friday.

Playhouse on Park's very own Director of Education, Dawn Loveland will be instructing the acting portion, with Colin Britt and Sean Pallatroni as co-music instructors and Hillary Ekwall as movement instructor.

In addition to this exciting curriculum, guest artists Ron Todorowski and Susan Haefner will offer their expertise and instruction during master classes in special topics. Ron Todorowski is currently performing on Broadway in the new hit show Finding Neverland. He is also the Resident Director and played two principal roles for the first national tour of Twyla Tharp's Come Fly Away. Broadway shows include Come Fly Away, Wicked, Guys and Dolls, The Times They Are A Changin, Movin' Out and Footloose. He starred in London's West End production and first national tour of Movin' Out playing the role of Eddie where he received a Helen Hayes Award for Best Actor in a musical. Susan Haefner is very excited to return to Playhouse on Park to teach summer master classes, having taught several in past years. She recently appeared in The Dining Room at the Playhouse, and directed/choreographed 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in 2014. Susan is also a Broadway veteran, having appeared in State Fair, 42nd Street, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Her national tour credits include Damn Yankees w/ Jerry Lewis and Billy Elliot. As a teacher, Susan has taught at numerous Performing Arts Schools and Theatres around the country and is is currently serving as Interim Director of Education and Outreach at Weston Playhouse in Vermont.

Each class meets at the Playhouse from 9:00 am-3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The fee is $700. Students may arrive as early as 8:30 am, and must be picked up by 4:00 pm. Students must bring their own lunches daily. To register, visit the Education page at www.playhouseonpark.org, and download the registration form, or call 860-523-5900x10 for more information. Playhouse on Park is located at 244 Park Road, West Hartford, CT, 06119.
