On Saturday 11 October 2014, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) will be one of around 90 buildings to open its doors to the public as part of Brisbane Open House 2014.

Brisbane Open House each year provides the public the rare opportunity to discover a wealth of architecturally diverse, well-designed and historic buildings in Brisbane CBD, South Bank, Fortitude Valley, Spring Hill, Bowen Hills and suburbs further afield.

QPAC has participated in Brisbane Open House consecutively since its launch in 2010 and this year Brisbane Open House at QPAC promises to be bigger than ever with a full programme of activities and live performance, including FREE guided backstage tours, self-guided foyer tours, performances and exhibitions.

Highlights include guided behind-the-scenes tours (limited to 25 people per tour) with access to all four of QPAC's theatres including the Lyric Theatre, currently home to the Queensland premiere season of Disney's THE LION KING, an open rehearsal by Brisbane's own internationally acclaimed Southern Cross Soloists, and free jazz music on QPAC's Melbourne Street Green by the QYO Big Band.

Also not to be missed is the free The Art of The Lion King exhibition which traces the journey from animated film to block-buster live musical and is currently featured at the QPAC's Tony Gould Gallery and the Actors' & Entertainers' Benevolent Fund - Celebrity Merchandise Stall in QPAC's Tunnel, offering a range of autographed celebrity memorabilia including posters, DVDs, CDs and books signed by artists such Hugh Laurie, Alan Davies, and David Suchet.

This year Brisbane Open House is looking forward to patrons exploring a wider range of buildings and discovering more hidden treasures! Brisbane Open House will be held over two days Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 October 2014 (although QPAC will only be participating on Saturday 11 October 2014).

Brisbane Open House is part of the Open House Worldwide family and is an initiative of the Office of the Queensland Government Architect, the Brisbane Development Association and the National Trust of Australia (Queensland).
