From Australia's Soul Capital comes two of Melbourne's outstanding vocalists, Fulton Street's Shannen Wick and jazz, soul, rhythm and blues vocalist, Vanessa Fernandez, performing together for one night only in Black is Vinly; bringing a mix of old, new and original soul on Thursday 15 June 2017 at Paris Cat.

Breathing life into their favourite old school vinyl records by some of the all-time great soul and jazz legends, Shannen and Vanessa perform together for the first time, live-on-stage, accompanied by some of Melbourne's hottest soul performers including Saskwatch's keyboarder, Olaf Scott and Saxophonist, Sam Boon.

Like a vinyl record, original, authentic, rich and beautiful, Shannen and Vanessa's voices will meld together contemporary and traditional music to breathe new life into old, new and original soul. The two will perform music from the likes of Etta James, ShaRon Jones, Sam Cook and the latest local and international new releases from Leon Bridges, Snarky Puppy and Melbourne's own The Meltdown and as well as original music written by the two Soul songstresses themselves.

Training under the same gospel vocal coach Tania G, Vanessa and Shannen first met and with their two distinct voices, they went their separate ways into the Soul and Jazz scene; Shannen with her original soul outfit Fulton Street and Vanessa with Fernandez & Wright. Recently programmed into the Stonnington Jazz Festival and the Stonnington Sunset sounds, Vanessa and Shannen reconnected and decided to develop a brand-new show that would highlight their love for Soul music and showcase their unique, exquisite voices.

Shannen Wick
Shannen developed a passion for singing at an early age beginning at the National Children's Choir of Australia before transitioning to vocal coach Tania G, developing her commanding vocal style. In late 2012, Shannen became the founder, singer-songwriter and manager for seven-piece band 'Fulton Street,' pursuing her passion for soul music performing at some of Melbourne's most iconic live music venues including Cherry Bar, Ding Dong Lounge and The Espy. Recently, Shannen had the opportunity to sing alongside Gemma Sharard (Chris Russell's Chicken Walk) and Kat Spazzy (The Spazzys) as a backing vocalist for Tim Rogers. Shannen recently debuted as part of 'Women of Soul,' singing alongside Stella Angelico, Thando Sikwila and Chelsea Wilson. She also performed at the 2016 Brunswick Music Festival and the 2016 Sunset Sounds Series. Shannen and Fulton Street where featured as part of The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club, Vol. 4 via Freestyle Records, 2016. Shannen is currently recording her debut album with Fulton Street under the guidance of Ivan Khatchoyan (Cookin' On 3 Burners). Her debut single 'Young People' has had multiple radio plays featuring Fulton Street on Triple J, ABC, Triple R and PBS in 2016.

Vanessa Fernandez
Easing blissfully through the realms of jazz, blues and soul, Vanessa creates a distinct, compelling sound. Often compared to the jazz, blues and soul greats with whom she draws inspiration, her voice bleeds effortlessly throughout their realm, maintaining an individual presence, exuding her strong, persuasive tone. Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder and Eric Clapton are sounds she grew up with. Vanessa has performed at premium venues around Melbourne including, Arts Centre Melbourne, State Theatre, Paris Cat and Bennetts Lane. Her original writing is largely expressed throughout her debut album 'Fernandez and Wright Unsung', released in 2009 with guitarist Steve Wright. Accompanied by some of Australia's finest jazz musicians these beautiful songs were brought to life. The album was launched to a full house at Melbourne's premier jazz venue Bennetts Lane and received rave reviews both locally and internationally. Unsung hit #32 on the CMJ Jazz Music Charts in the US and #42 on the Jazz Week World Charts.

Shannen Wick & Vanessa Fernandez, come together for one night only.... Don't miss Melbourne's female soul sensations, in a night to remember.
