Jazz in the Key of Ellison with Wynton Marsalis, Catherine Russell, Talib Kweli, Angélique Kidjo, Patti Austin, Joe Morton with Andy Farber & His Orchestra
Tuesday, November 1 at 7:30pm Part of TD James Moody Jazz Festival Presented by Audible, Inc. Sponsored by the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers-Newark with support from the National Jazz Museum in Harlem
A tribute to the great American novelist Ralph Ellison and his remarkable jazz collection through words and music. Presented by Audible, the event will be introduced by Audible founder and CEO Donald Katz, who was taught by Ellison while an undergraduate at NYU and was supported by Ellison through his first career as a writer.
Also join us for a Jazz Jam Session at NICO Kitchen + Bar on Tuesday, November 1, following Jazz in the Key of Ellison. The guest musicians for this night includes: Jackie Jones, Aaron Kimmel, Joe Magnarrelli, Marcus Miller, and Ben Rubens, along with the James Austin, Jr. House Band.

Two Centuries of Piano Passion: Bernstein & Parsonnet in Concert and Conversation with Seymour Bernstein, Dr. Victor Parsonnet and Guy Sterling

Though absent from the concert stage for many years, Seymour Bernstein returned to the news with the 2014 release of the critically-acclaimed documentary Seymour: An Introduction, directed by actor Ethan Hawke. Dr. Victor Parsonnet, a native son of Newark, is an accomplished musician and serves as Chairman Emeritus of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.

Renée Fleming's radiant voice soars in songs and arias from France and Italy, plus Schumann's exquisite "A Woman's Life and Love," and selections from Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I. Pianist Gerald Martin Moore is accompanist.

Carefree: Dancin' with Fred & Ginger Starring Jared Grimes, Hayley Podschun, and Donna McKechnie Directed and Choreographed by Warren Carlyle

Co-produced by New Jersey Performing Arts Center and RKO Stage, the song-and-dance spectacular, an original musical tribute to the marvelous Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, will debut in November.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and RKO Stage present the premiere of Carefree: Dancin' with Fred & Ginger, an all-new tribute to American cinema's most iconic pair, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Tony Award-winner Warren Carlyle directs and choreographs this original musical spectacular. Leading the cast in this homage to the greatest dance duo of Tinseltown's golden era is Jared Grimes (2014 Fred & Adele Astaire Award for best male dancer in Broadway's After Midnight), Hayley Podschun (Something Rotten!, Hairspray, Chaplin) with special guest appearance by Broadway legend Donna McKechnie (Tony Award winner for A Chorus Line). The cast also features David Elder (Curtains, 42nd Street, Titanic, Kiss Me, Kate), Drew King (On the Twentieth Century) and Tessa Grady (Dames at Sea, Cinderella).
