NPR Humorist and Author David Sedaris Returns to ASU Gammage, 4/25

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present a reading and book signing by NPR humorist and best-selling author David Sedaris on Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at ASU Gammage in Tempe. Sedaris' appearance coincides with the April 23 release of his newest collection of essays titled Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls.

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America's pre-eminent humor writers, known for slicing through cultural euphemisms and political correctness. His best-selling books have sold millions of copies in 25 different languages.

Sedaris' collections of essays include Barrel Fever (1994), Holidays on Ice (1997), Naked (1997), Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000), Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004), When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008), and Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary (2010). He was the editor of Children Playing before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories (2005), and his writings have appeared in The New Yorker. Sedaris and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name "The Talent Family" and have written a half dozen plays that have been produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center and The Drama Department in New York City.

In 2001, Sedaris became the third recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor and was named "Humorist of the Year" by Time Magazine. He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for "Best Spoken Word Album" and "Best Comedy Album." A feature film adaptation of his story C.O.G. premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Sedaris' original radio pieces are heard on This American Life, distributed nationally by Public Radio International and produced by WBEZ in Chicago.
