"Celebrate with Song and Dance!" will feature the Orchestra, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble of Millersville University on Sunday, October 11 at 2:30 PM at the Winter Center presented by the MU Department of Music. The concert will feature selections from Beethoven's 5th Symphony, Borodin's The Polovetsian Dances, J. P. Sousa's The Washington Post, Norman Dello Joio's Satiric Dances, and a setting of the American folk song, "Shenandoah" by Frank Ticheli. Flute soloist and MU Faculty member Joel Behrens will also be featured performing Cecile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute." The Winter Center is located at 60 W. Cottage Ave., Millersville.

The MU Orchestra is a highly trained ensemble that performs established repertoire as well as new and interesting music. The orchestra's concerts strive to cultivate interdisciplinary connections, building a wide and varied audience. It is conducted by Dr. Vera Volchansky, Music Director of Lancaster County Youth Orchestra and Orchestra Director with the Millersville University Orchestra. Dr. Volchansky has worked with orchestras and ensembles in Russia, Eastern Europe and the United States, and is described by colleagues as a conductor of "impeccable taste."

The Concert Band, comprised of approximately 50 wind and percussion players, performs a variety of quality literature including original wind band classics, transcriptions, and music from the jazz and popular genres. The band is conducted by Dr. Mark Yingling, who is also a faculty member at Franklin and Marshall College.

The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert ensemble of the MU band program and is comprised of the most accomplished woodwind, brass, and percussion players at Millersville University. This 40-member ensemble performs the finest existing and emerging wind band literature and is dedicated to the furtherance of wind band music as one of America's leading art forms. Dr. Keith Wiley is Wind Ensemble conductor, as well as trumpet instructor at MU, where he has been a member of the music faculty since 1984.
