On Friday, September 14th, 2012 from 8PM to midnight, Killing My Lobster will be hosting its 15th Anniversary fundraising event at the Verdi Club at 2424 Mariposa Street in San Francisco. The event will gather the extended KML communities of actors, writers, patrons, and supporters to celebrate the past, present, and future of the organization with a night of revelry - a prom, Quinceañera style!

Highlights for the evening include: Marga Gomez (Best of the Bay 2012 “Best Comedian”) as featured MC, a prom photo booth, and a benefit silent auction. KML’s 15th Anniversary Prom is definitely a time for celebration. Any relationship that lasts that long deserves a party. It also marks a time for KML to hold its annual fundraiser.

KML Creative Director, Andy Alabran, describes why fundraising events like this one are so crucial to the organization’s survival: “While some non-profit theater companies may receive financial viability from a subscriber base or deep-pocket donors, KML produces work primarily from the support of its audience. We’re taking a time-out from production to say, in the truest sense, ‘we can't do what we do without you’.”

KML is a comedy home of some of the funniest comedians in the Bay Area. At the forefront of KML’s mission is creating opportunities for its talented community. KML has worked with other like-minded artists at Z Space and the Jewish Community Center, performed on the American Conservatory Theater stage with the masterful clown Bill Irwin, and showcased the talent of its students as emerging new voices in the Bay Area.

What’s on the horizon for KML? Alabran states, “We're in conversation to produce a new play by local talent Ken Slattery, a handful of sketch shows (of course), and more videos than you could shake a rubber chicken at.” He goes to express what makes KML so meaningful to the Bay Area community: “Everything KML does is new. Another theater company might do "The Cherry Orchard", but all our shows are from scratch. It is all a world premiere. From first utterance of the idea to closing night, no one has produced or performed the shows we do. The opportunities for creative expression are endless.”

For 15 years, Killing My Lobster has been making people laugh, participating in sketch festivals from Vancouver to NYC, winning “Best Comedy Group” from both the SF Bay Guardian and SF Weekly, and much more. Alabran says, “And we'd like to be around for another 15 years. Well, more than 15 years, really. And there comes a time when a helping hand is needed. Now is that time.”
