Pacific Grove, CA

Joseph Nordmann during his long career of painting kept meticulous records of his sketches used in his final oil paintings. He is a great believer in sketching as a first step to original art unlike the accepted current practice of beginning with brush and canvas. His sketchbooks are also a record of his career and a reminder of his progress over a period of time. Add to this is a wonderful collection of inspirational and humorous quotations.

From cover to cover, "Sketchbook Ideas" (published by Xlibris) is a delightful array of color and form perfected by Joseph Nordmann. This book is divided into categories of subjects: landscapes, still life, marines and skies all taken from nature and intended as a guide for art enthusiasts whether they plan to paint or just enjoy the visual.

"The purpose of this work is to encourage those who have sketched little in the past to take up the sketching habit," says Nordmann. "With this book, readers will develop the sketchbook habit. Practice will improve all their artwork and also provide a source of useful material for years to come. "

"Sketchbook Ideas" is a look at the impressionistic art of today by a learned scholar. It serves as a reminder of where one was and evidence that one is moving onward to more serious creativity.
