Jackalope Theatre Company and The Yard are pleased to announce the cast and production team for Blood at the Root, a continuation of their artistic partnership. The play, written by Dominique Morisseau, is co-directed by The Yard's co-Artistic Director Joel Ewing^ and Jackalope Theatre Company Member and The Yard Resident Artist and Mentor Will Kiley^*.

Blood at the Root runs April 12 - April 29, 2017 at The Frontier, 1106 W Thorndale in Chicago. Tickets are $5 - 20, and are on sale now via www.jackalopetheatre.org and www.the-yard.org

A striking new ensemble drama based on the Jena Six; six black students who were initially charged with attempted murder for a school fight after being provoked with nooses hanging from a tree on campus. This bold new play by Dominique Morisseau (Sunset Baby, Detroit '67, Skeleton Crew) examines the miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crisis in relations between men and women of all classes and, as a result, the shattering state of black family life.

The cast for Blood at the Root features Ireon Roach^ (Raelynn), Victor Musoni^ (DeAndre), Brian Baren^ (Colin),Jenna Makkawy (Toria), Danielle Chmieiewki (Asha), and Tevion Lanier^ (Justin).

The production team for Blood at the Root includes: John Ross Wilson^ (scenic design), Jared Bellot^ (dramaturg),Aaron Stephenson^ (sound design), Mykele Callicut and Kiki Layne (movement directors), Anthony Venturini^(scenic artist), Cleo Shine^ and Daniel Parsons (stage managers), Andrew Swanson^* (technical director) and The Yard's co-Artistic Director Mechelle Moe^ and Jackalope Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Kasier Ahmed*(producers).
