It's March Madness at Liberty Hall Museum

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University is getting ready for spring with a great line-up of special events this March! Reservations are required for all events and tickets can now be purchased on Liberty Hall Museum's website -- a brand new feature.

A great event for the family is Liberty Hall's Dr. Seuss Birthday Breakfast on Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. - noon. Children and their families will enjoy a scrumptious all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, making Dr. Seuss hats, and taking photos with silly props and the one and only Cat in the Hat himself. Admission is $25 for children and $30 for adults. Reservations are required by February 27.

Liberty Hall Museum also invites Downton Abbey fans to celebrate the acclaimed television show's final episode at a lavish event -- a Downton Abbey Ball on Sunday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Atrium at Kean University's STEM Building, next to Liberty Hall. There will be a formal dinner and dancing to Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra as well as a private showing of the final Downton Abbey episode as it airs on PBS. Guests are encouraged to get into the spirit of the ball by dressing in period costumes or coming as their favorite character. Get tickets early because, like the museum's popular Downton Abbey Luncheons, the ball is expected to be sold out. Tickets are $125 per person and reservations are required by February 28.

"Looking forward to Downton Abbey every year has been a big part of our lives, and what better way to celebrate its ending than with a ball," said Bill Schroh, director of museum operations. "We will host a send-off that the Crawleys themselves couldn't top."

Liberty Hall is also excited to announce the return of the popular event, Ladies' Night Out: A Night of Vintage Fashion on Friday, March 18 from 7 - 9 p.m. Grab some friends and enjoy a fashion-forward ladies' night out! Guests will be treated to wine and cheese while getting an exclusive look at Liberty Hall Museum's exquisite collection of vintage clothing and accessories. Afterwards, stick around for an informative and entertaining fashion show of historical clothing -- a new addition this year!

"We are always getting asked about the fashion collection at Liberty Hall so we thought, why not bring out some of our best vintage dresses and accessories for everyone to enjoy!" said Lacey Bongard, coordinator of museum programs. "We are so excited to be able to offer this event again and see what people think of fashions from years ago." Admission is $25 per person, $22 for museum members and Kean University alumni.

The always-popular Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. and again from noon - 1:30 p.m. has children scurrying around the Liberty Hall Museum grounds searching for holiday treats and includes photos with the Easter Bunny! Families interested in participating are encouraged to reserve before March 19 to ensure availability as spots fill very quickly. Admission for the event is $10 for one child and accompanying adult, with a cost of $5 per additional adult.

The month ends with Liberty Hall's History Happy Hour: The History of Sports on Thursday, March 31 from 7 - 9 p.m. Sip a drink, enjoy snacks and put your sports knowledge to the test at Liberty Hall Museum while learning some fun history facts. Admission is $25 per person, $20 for museum members and Kean alumni. You must be 21 years or older to attend.

Also, looking ahead to warmer weather, Liberty Hall Museum is excited to welcome back Oasis Day camp for the 2016 summer! Oasis believes that summer camp is a place where children should come to grow, learn, have fun and build lasting memories while making life-long friends. Oasis in Union features the best of two worlds: modern NCAA athletic facilities and state-of-the art theatres at Kean University, and rustic, old-world charm at Liberty Hall Museum and grounds. Info Sessions will be held at Liberty Hall on Thursday, March 10 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Representatives from the camp will be on hand to answer all questions. Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University chronicles more than 240 years of American history. The museum also houses extensive collections of furniture, ceramics, textiles, toys and tools owned by seven generations of the Livingston and Kean families. The Firehouse Museum, built in 2004, houses three antique fire engines, including a rare 1911 American LaFrance Metropolitan Steam Engine. The museum is open April - December, Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. with tours leaving every hour.
