Improv Wars' 'THE HOLIDAY SHOWCASE' & 'BLIZZARD BLITZ' Kick Off Next Month

On December 16, 2014, IW Productions kicks off the holiday season with Improv Wars: The Holiday Showcase featuring 15 of Columbus' finest improv groups competing for audience laughs. Each group will get seven minutes to show what they've got using a Holiday theme and suggestions from the audience. Its no holds bared, no rules, and and tons of laughs. As with previous Improv Wars the event will be held at Studio 35, 3055 Indianola Ave., Columbus, OH 43202.

And to get the audience into the holiday spirit, audience members will be encouraged to wear tacky holiday outfits. The audience will get to decide who is the tackiest and the winner will receive prizes!

The December 16th show is a prequel to Improv Wars: The Blizzard Blitz in a five week run at Studio 35 with shows January 6th, January 20th, February 3rd, February 17th, and the Finale March 3rd. On each date, Improv Wars: The Blizzard Blitz will showcase three to four new improv groups who will compete for audience laughs and applause. And the audience gets to be a part of the show by providing suggestions to give the groups inspiration for their scene. The winning group for each night goes on to the finale on March 3rd, competing for the Winner of the Improv Wars: The Blizzard Blitz. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

Improvisational comedy is a growing theater form in Columbus that has its roots in Chicago with Second City, I.O. Theater, and The Annoyance Theater and shows such as "Whose Line Is It Anyway" and Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Columbus is host to over 15 improv groups performing around town. Nationally, Chicago's Many well known actors got their start as "improvers" - actors such Alan Alda, Betty Thomas, Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Joan Rivers to name a few.

Improv Wars was started in December of 2011 to promote the growth of improvisation comedy to wider audiences and to provide a professional venue to showcase the talent in Central Ohio.
