The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) - the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization - today issued the following statement regarding allegations that 30 Rock star and comedian Tracy Morgan launched an anti-gay rant during a recent stand-up routine in Nashville.

"Hateful remarks that mock youth suicides and the very real emotional and sometimes physical bullying LGBT kids face on a daily basis have no place in a comedy routine," said HRC Vice President of Communications, Fred Sainz. "I'm shocked that Tracy Morgan would find humor in so viciously attacking our youth. If these allegations are true, Tracy Morgan must immediately accept responsibility and apologize. His employer, NBC Universal, also must come forward and condemn these atrocious comments."

According to an audience member in a June 4 show, the anti-gay rant included a line where Morgan said if his son came out to him, he would pull out a knife and stab him to death.

The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
