New Yorkers will be celebrating irreverent comic and famed Morningside Heights' resident, George Carlin all day on Wednesday, October 22nd. Beginning at 1:00PM, there will be a public ceremony for the co-naming of West 121 Street and Amsterdam to GEORGE CARLIN WAY. That celebration will continue with The Seven Dirty Words: George Carlin is Finally Getting His "Way" hosted by Colin Quinn at Caroline's on Broadway (1626 Broadway between 50 & 49 Streets).

The GEORGE CARLIN WAY saga began in June 2012 when NY comic Kevin Bartini realized there was no recognition of one of Morningside Height's most famous residents. He immediately contacted the local city council, inquiring about the process to rename a street. He and a group of volunteers began canvassing the neighborhood, gathering names and began an online petition garnering support to co-name West 121 Street and Amsterdam in honor of George Carlin. The dream became a reality three years later on July 9, 2014 when Mayor DeBlasio signed the law allowing the co-naming to be official.

The public unveiling ceremony will take place on October 22 at 1:00PM, where confirmed attendees include Colin Quinn and Keith Olbermann, along with Carlin's daughter Kelly, older brother Patrick.

Kelly Carlin said when of the street naming, "My dad would be thrilled with this honor. He loved the old neighborhood. He probably would have uttered a glowing exploitive or two about the news." The comedian often referenced his Morningside Heights neighborhood in his specials and in albums particular on his albums Class Clown (1972) and Occupation: Foole (1973). Carlin died at age 71 on June 22, 2008.

The celebration will continue later that evening as Colin Quinn will host The Seven Dirty Words: George Carlin is Finally Getting His "Way" at Caroline's on Broadway (1626 Broadway between 50 & 49 Streets). The show will begin at 7:30PM and line-up includes Ted Alexandro, Kevin Bartini, Eddie Brill, Jim Norton and special guests. A two-beverage minimum applies in the showroom during the show. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Reservations can be made by calling the Carolines on Broadway Box Office at (212) 757-4100.
