The Flat Rock Playhouse 2015 season will continue with the delightful feel-good musical Pump Boys & Dinettes, which will run from October 1st through October 25th on the Clyde & Nina Allen Mainstage in the village of Flat Rock.

Somewhere between Frog Level and Smyrna, North Carolina, way down on Highway 57, the 'Pump Boys' sell high-octane gasoline, while the 'Dinettes' serve up plenty of pie and sass at the Double Cupp diner next door. Come sit a spell as the Pump Boys and Dinettes share their stories of heartache and hilarity with songs, live-instruments, and even a kitchen utensil or two. Pump Boys & Dinettes is one of the most frequently requested shows by Flat Rock Playhouse audiences. It's a countrified musical packed with original and highly entertaining, toe-tappin' tunes, presented as a love song to family and friends, both old and new.

Pump Boys & Dinettes was written by John Foley, Debra Monk, Mark Hardwick, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann as a semi-autobiographical tribute to their experiences as performers working in the food service industry. The group directed and starred in the original Broadway production at the Princess Theatre in 1982, and the show closed after an impressive 573 performances. Pump Boys & Dinettes features fun, memorable tunes such as Highway 57, Fisherman's Prayer, The Night Dolly Parton Was Almost Mine, and No Holds Barred. Not only do the Pump Boys and Dinettes perform with musical instruments like a piano, guitars and basses but they also inventively incorporate kitchen utensils like spoons, pots and pans.

"Mr. Wann, the show's lead songwriter, and his collaborators whipped up more than a dozen nifty tunes, plaintive to jubilant, evoking country radio staples ranging from the pounding-the-piano country rock of Jerry Lee Lewis to heart-sore tales of absent men redolent of Tammy Wynette." - New York Times

"Pump Boys & Dinettes gives a sense of a group of friends in a fairly close-knit community, and I think that strikes a chord with people whose relationships are sometimes driven apart by the stresses of modern life." - Jim Wann

Pump Boys & Dinettes features Jamie Mohamdien, Matthew Riordan, Sam Sherwood and Guy Strobel as the Pump Boys: Eddie, Jackson, Jim, and L.M, respectively. Rachel Camp and Charlynn Carter will play the Dinettes: sisters Prudie and Rhetta Cup.

Pump Boys & Dinettes will be directed by longtime Vagabond Jason Edwards with Amy Jones providing the choreography. Joining Edwards and Jones on the production team are Dennis C. Maulden, CJ Barnwell, Ashli Arnold and Kurt Conway as the Scenic, Lighting, Costume and Sound designers respectively. Lindsey A. Moss will serve as the Stage Manager with Bill Munoz as Assistant Stage Manager. Paul Feraldi will be designing the properties.

Pump Boys & Dinettes is presented by Mainstage Series Sponsor The Cliffs with BMW of Asheville serving as Opening Night Sponsor. The Executive Producer of Pump Boys & Dinettes is Morris Broadband.
