Comedian Ricky Gervais is claiming "free speech" after he was accused of blaming the actual celebrity victims of a nude photo hack online.

He said in a tweet that was quickly deleted, "Celebrities, make it harder for people to get nude pics of you from your computer by not putting nude pics of yourself on your computer."

Approximately 100 celebrites have had their photographs stolen then shared on the internet. The hacker has reportedly obtained over 60 nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence. Kate Upton, Teresa Palmer, Mary Winstead, Amber Heard, Victoria Justice and more have also been targeted.

Gervais defended himself by saying, "Of course the hackers are 100% to blame but you can still makes jokes about it. Jokes don't portray your true serious feelings on a subject." He also said, "It's more important to spend your energy trying to stop actual bad things than to run around trying to stop jokes about bad things."

Legal action is being pursued by the celebrities who have been hacked.
