Experience the beauty, ingenuity and hilarity of short-form puppet theater in this showcase of slam acts from across the country. Nominated by their respective slams in the Puppet Slam Network and curated by the Center for Puppetry Arts, the nation's best slam performances will be presented for three nights only! Recommended for ages 18+ ONLY, the 2016 National Puppet Slam at the Center for Puppetry Arts is sponsored in part by Dragon Con and the Puppet Slam Network.

The lineup is as follows:

A piece created for the participants of the National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Center.

  • "Through the Lookingglass" by Myra Su, Mitch Salm and Allyson Gonzalez

Set in backcountry America, this psychological thriller is the coming-of-age story of a young boy, Alec, on his first deer hunt. For the first time, Alec confronts death and the savage power of man.

  • "Let's Be Frank" by Bill Holznagel with Paul Velasquez and Gavin Cummins

An improvised game show with your host, Frank and his lovely assistant, Doug. One random audience member will be given the chance to win fabulous prizes.

  • "The Greatest Hand Shadow Play Ever Written" by Tim Lagasse

Performed by the author's great, great grandson. It is a treat rarely enjoyed by modern man.

  • "Irina Bunionfootskya in Caprice Egyptian" Thom Fountain with Richard Wilson, PatRick James Brymer and Christine Papalexis

Not-So-Prima Ballerina, Irina Bunionfootskya, dances a dance based on the Cleopatra story. Our queen emerges onto the stage to celebrate life, only to be confronted by a serpent hell-bent on sealing her fate.

  • "Heart Splinters" by Emily Schubert

What happens when the heart of the world breaks? This paper cut shadow play tells a story about life's interconnectedness and possibilities.

  • "The Ballad of Ellen and Sadie" by Sam Grossman, Jessie Delaplaine, Devin Martin and Kristie Winther

This is a tale of ladies, ghosts, and revenge inspired by traditional Appalachian balladry and stories of water monsters from around the world.

  • "A Dream of ME" by Honey Goodenough with Harry LaCoste

Some familiar characters take a transformative journey while looking for love, romance, and maybe even a happy ending.

A beer and wine bar will be open before the show and during intermission.

The all-inclusive ticket also admits patrons to the Center's Worlds of PuppetryMuseum featuring the Jim Henson and Global collections. The Henson collection is the largest collection of Henson puppets and artifacts in the world. Also on display (and included with an all-inclusive ticket or a museum-only ticket) is a special exhibit,Jim Henson's Labyrinth: Journey to Goblin City-A Special 30th Anniversary Celebration.
