Broadway's D'Vorah Bailey returns to The Metropolitan Room with WISHFUL THINKING

Broadway singer and actress D'Vorah Bailey returns with her solo cabaret show, Wishful Thinking, at The Metropolitan Room on Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 pm.

You might expect that the daughter of an African-American minister father and a lawyer mother would become an activist working at the UN. But D'Vorah Bailey had other ideas - Show Business was her calling!

Arriving in New York City with a suitcase full of hope and big Broadway dreams, she soon realizes that dreams have a way of evolving.

From the wishful thinking of a young girl to the self-acceptance of the woman she becomes, join D'Vorah as she reflects on life in - and out - of show business, with some of her favorite songs from Broadway and beyond.

D'VORAH BAILEY is a singer and actress who has performed extensively on stage, television and in commercials. D'Vorah started performing at a very young age in school musicals and concert choirs in Dewitt, New York, a suburb of Syracuse. D'Vorah went on to study in the prestigious Musical Theater program at the University of Michigan led by the incomparable Brent Wagner, earning a BFA in Musical Theater.

After graduation, D'Vorah played the role of Sarah Brown in an international production of Guys and Dolls, touring through parts of Germany, Austria, Italy and Scandinavia. Upon her return to the US, she made her Broadway debut in the Hal Prince revival of Candide with Jim Dale, Jason Danieley and Harolyn Blackwell.

D'Vorah earned an MFA in Acting from The Old Globe Theater in San Diego, where she played Julia in Two Gentlemen of Verona and appeared in numerous other main-stage productions directed by theatre luminaries including Jack O'Brien, Mark Lamos, John Rando and Darko Tresnjak.

Throughout her career, she has performed in many shows including Threepenny Opera, A Little Night Music (Liebeslieder), Into the Woods (Rapunzel), Company (Kathy), Camelot, La Cage Aux Folles (Cagelle), Desert Song, and Evita.

D'Vorah has appeared on television in All My Children, Ed, Damages, and in the Merchant Ivory film Heights.

She has appeared in commercials, industrials, and print advertisements for numerous companies including Time Warner Cable (Homeland, with Claire Danes), Walmart, Aetna Medicare, US Cellular, Orkin, Office Depot, Hewlett-Packard, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Brighthouse Networks and many others.

D'Vorah has also worked as an Associate Director with Hunter Foster on the musicals Company and Ain't Misbehavin' at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA.

She also recently became a published author with a featured essay in the First Edition of Subplots, a Journal of the Perry Library of Theatre.

D'Vorah is a proud member of Actors Equity and SAG-AFTRA.

Phil Hall (Musical Director) Throughout his career, Phil Hall has created significant achievements in just about every aspect of the musical theater industry. On Broadway, he was the conductor for Play Me A Country Song and was the associate conductor for the revival of Mame, which starred Angela Lansbury. Phil was also the musical director and conductor for dozens of productions including Phantom, the national tour of Cats, Side By Side By Sondheim, The Merry Widow, 42nd Street, The Desert Song andThe Wizard of Oz. Throughout the United States his work was featured at such renowned venues as the Kennedy Center, the Paper Mill Playhouse, Atlanta's Theater of the Stars, Houston's Theatre Under The Stars, Seattle's Fifth Avenue Theatre and the Michigan Opera Theatre. Onstage, Phil played the role of Jake in Paper Mill's production of Show Boat, which aired on PBS' Great Performances series. On film, Phil played a vocal coach and pianist in the Mira Sorvino-produced, Griffin Dunne-directed film, Lisa Picard Is Famous. Phil's vocal arrangements, featured in the musical revue, SophisticatEd Ellington were presented at Carnegie Hall, conducted by the Erich Kunzel with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. He wroteMatthew Passion, a play with music presented in 2005 at the Chernuchin Theater in New York City, as well as the score to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which was presented at North Shore Music Theater, Kansas City Starlight, and Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera.
