Geraldine Quinn - MDMA: Modern Day Maiden Aunt

Tuesday 16 June and Wednesday 17 June at 6.30pm

Presented by Geraldine Quinn in association with Hayes Theatre Co

Written by Geraldine Quinn

Director Justin Hamilton
Musical Director Geraldine Quinn and Steven J. Hearne
Costume Designer Sam Bolton

An award-winning rock cabaret about modern aunthood, not breeding and the fine art of embarrassing other people's children

The novelist Jane Austen never married, but had 23 nieces and nephews. She wrote some of the greatest novels in the English language.

Geraldine Quinn (Spicks & Specks, Adam Hills Tonight) has 19 nieces and nephews. She draws cock'n'balls, writes songs about Bowie - and has wiped many bottoms.

MDMA: Modern Day Maiden Aunt is the sevent full-length original cabaret from Melbourne artist Geraldine Quinn. As she finds herself the only unmarried/child-free sibling in a family of seven, it is an honest, heartfelt and hildarious show about the role of extended family today, and, in particular, people (especially women) who have chosen not to have children and the presumptions placed upon them.

From being called 'MILFS' and 'cougars', to the irritating conversations about schools at parties, to the aunt (or uncle's) role in children's lives, including those awkward questions from nieces and nephews about why Aunty Gerry isn't married - what does it mean to be the odd one out, not just in your own family, but according to social "norms"?

Defiant and thoughtful, MDMA explores the strengths and weaknesses of 39-year-old Quinn's experience, and challenges not just the outside world's presumptions, but her own.

Do you have to have children to be 'normal'? Is it your choice? Do men and women without kids have a unique perspective to share with the small humans in their lives? Will any of her nieces and nephews see the show? After all, she doesn't have any good stuff to leave them in her will yet.

Rob Mills is "Surprisingly Good"

Tuesday 23 June and Wednesday 24 June at 8.30pm

Presented by CCR Productions in association with Hayes Theatre Co

Written by Natalie Garonzi and Rob Mills

Director Tyran Parke
Musical Director and Arrangements Andrew Worboys

Starring Rob Mills

Join Rob Mills for an irreverent look at the experiences that shaped his career; featuring great tunes, a smashing band and a bunch of fun stories.

Sometimes when you live in the public arena, your life can be more eye-catching (or headline grabbing!) than your work. Reality TV, Twitter scandals and THAT incident with Paris Hilton, are all the stuff of Hollywood. It's easy for us to forget who the guy behind these headlines really is; a remarkably successful and consistently celebrated musician and actor, Rob Mills.

Despite proving himself in the world of pop music, television and music theatre, Rob has amassed twelve years of reviews that revolve around the notion that 'considering we know him as that down to earth larrikin from Idol (or was it Big Brother?)... his performance was surprisingly good'...

Well this show is proof that these two things are no longer mutually exclusive. In this, his first one-man show, Rob reveals he can be both the irreverent personality who has charmed the nation on TV, as well as the skilled actor/singer he has proven to be through his extensive music theatre career. Let there be no further surprises, Rob Mills is one of Australia's most acclaimed young entertainers.

And now the cabaret stage provides his perfect home.

An irreverent, self-effacing look at the guy behind this extraordinary career, the show is much more than the standard cabaret fare. "Rob Mills is Surprisingly Good" is an eclectic mix of music and stories in an intimate setting, with a cracking band and the self-deprecating humour that we have learned to associate with Millsy.

Musically, the show is as unpredictable as he is, covering artists as far reaching as Taylor Swift, Gavin DeGraw and Coldplay, as well as hits from several of the musicals in which he has appeared; The Last Five Years and of course, Wicked.

Rob cut his teeth imitating great singers as a teenager in his garage in Wheelers Hill, Melbourne, and now it's time to claim his own voice in this dynamic, touching and unexpected one-man show.

The East Village is dead

At the dawn of the 1990s, New York City's East Village is home to an ever-diminishing bohemian community. Development pushes people from their borough, disease withers loved ones from their lives, and a group of friends fight for their place in the face of such quiet vanishing.

Jonathan Larson's RENT opened Off-Broadway in 1996 on the 25th of January and became a global phenomenon. The show would earn Larson multiple Tony Awards along with a Pulitzer Prize for Drama - a distinction not received by a music theatre work for another 14 years. Though Larson himself would never see the impact of his masterwork - passing suddenly in the early hours of the very day the show would open to the public - it's longevity serves as a testament to the emotional resonance of Larson's creation and an embodiment of its ever-present message: "no day but today."

From the 8th of October, Highway Run Productions declares squatter's rights on Hayes Theatre Co's 111-seat theatre and presents a production in the spirit of those small beginnings. One iconic city, one life-changing year, one astonishing masterpiece: RENT.

After covering sex, booze, boys and mythical beasts he finds that maybe he's not so bad at expressing himself after all.
