Hayes Theatre opened just over a year ago in February 2014 and has already been home to a range of incredible works ranging from musicals including the award winning SWEET CHARITY, the world premiere of BEYOND DESIRE, and the Australian premiere of DOGFIGHT, to Cabaret including LUCY MAUNDER IN IRVING BERLIN: SONGS IN THE KEY OF BLACK, DAVID CAMPBELL SINGS JOHN BUCCHINO, and a sell-out season of MITCHELL BUTEL IN KILLING TIME.
The COMING SOON Event for the second half of 2015 shows that the Independent Music Theatre team comprising Luckiest Productions (David Campbell, Lisa Campbell and Richard Carroll), Neglected Musicals (Michelle Guthrie), and Neil Gooding Productions, the driving force behind Hayes Theatre Company, have no intention of slowing down and are staying true to their vision to provide a permanent home for small-scale musical theatre and cabaret. The next 6 months have an impressive list of shows including a Month of Cabaret, 5 musicals, including 1 that produced solely by Hayes Theatre Co, 1 Children's show, the New Musicals Australia program, a continuation of the Month Of Sundays series and the Neglected Musicals program in addition to the TALK PodCast, Publications and Cast Recordings.
The taste of the upcoming shows was met with screams of delight as HEATHERS THE MUSICAL (Director: Trevor Ashley), MASTERCLASS (Director: Daniel Lammin), VIOLET (Director: Mitchell Butel), HIGH SOCIETY (Director: Helen Dallimore) and RENT (Director: Shaun Rennie) and the Neglected Musical DEAR WORLD (Director: Nicholas Hammond) were announced. As each upcoming show was announced it was accompanied by a taste of the work with numbers from Jaz Flowers (HEATHERS), Blake Bowden (MASTERCLASS), Samantha Dodemaide (VIOLET), Amy Lehpamer (HIGH SOCIETY) and the cast of DOGFIGHT presenting Seasons of Love from RENT. The Cabaret line up was represented by Phil Scott as Lionel Bart (REVIEWING THE SITUATION) and Dash Kruck from I MIGHT TAKE MY SHIRT OFF represented the Month of Sundays series.
In addition to seeing shows, Hayes Theatre Co also invites support in the form of financial donations (Donations made prior to 28 May 2015 will be matched by the Government) and volunteering of time to assist with the day to day running of the venue, bar, front of house, education program, workshops and special events.

Australiana: A celebration of Australian Musical Theatre

The 2015 Cabaret Season kicks off with this remarkable one night only event directed by the one-and-only Genevieve Lemon and featuring musical direction by renowned composer Max Lambert.
Featuring some of the nation's best artists performing numbers from a diverse range of shows such as Miracle City, The Hatpin, Lola Montez and many more, this will be an unforgettable celebration of the Australian musical theatre legacy and the unique musical wealth it continues to gift us.

The rags to riches to rags story of the composer of the iconic musical, OLIVER!

When the artist George Seurat (in Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George) discusses what it is you can leave behind that lasts, he states two things; Children and Art.
Children and Art is the latest one-man cabaret from acclaimed, award-winning singer, actor and director, Tyran Parke. A humorous and touching evening that was developed for the Art Gallery of NSW, the show explores these two themes and the desire to leave a legacy, through the music of classic and popular writers including, Peter Allen, Don McLean and broadway heavyweights Stephen Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown and Andrew Lippa.

Geraldine Quinn (Spicks & Specks, Adam Hills Tonight) has 19 nieces and nephews. She draws cock'n'balls, writes songs about Bowie - and has wiped many bottoms.
MDMA: Modern Day Maiden Aunt is the sevent full-length original cabaret from Melbourne artist Geraldine Quinn. As she finds herself the only unmarried/child-free sibling in a family of seven, it is an honest, heartfelt and hildarious show about the role of extended family today, and, in particular, people (especially women) who have chosen not to have children and the presumptions placed upon them.
From being called 'MILFS' and 'cougars', to the irritating conversations about schools at parties, to the aunt (or uncle's) role in children's lives, including those awkward questions from nieces and nephews about why Aunty Gerry isn't married - what does it mean to be the odd one out, not just in your own family, but according to social "norms"?
Defiant and thoughtful, MDMA explores the strengths and weaknesses of 39-year-old Quinn's experience, and challenges not just the outside world's presumptions, but her own.

Inspired by Maria Callas' 1971 visit to New York's Juilliard School of Music, Terrence McNally's Master Class is an insightful look at the life and art of opera's most beloved and controversial diva.
At the time, Callas' own career singing on the world's great stages had drawn to a close, her voice a shadow of its former glory. Six years later, Callas' death at the age of fifty-three sealed her legend as a real-life tragic heroine.

Who'd want to be a millionaire?
The captivating Tracy Lord invites you to the most exclusive wedding of 1938. There's 700 guests, oceans of champagne, and a couple of pesky undercover journalists threatening to transform the whole affair from shindig to scandal. Oh, and one thing remains uncertain - who exactly will be the groom?
Adored by a society that worships her looks, money and feminine grace, why does Tracy still feel unvalued? Perhaps she needs to learn that "the occasional tumble off the pedestal is good for a person." Wayward family members, wise-cracking interlopers and an inconvenient ex-husband all converge to turn Tracy's wedding preparations into a battle against temptation, dirty tricks, and basic sobriety. What a swell party this is!
High Society is the first production produced in-house by Hayes Theatre Co. The East Village is dead
At the dawn of the 1990s, New York City's East Village is home to an ever-diminishing bohemian community. Development pushes people from their borough, disease withers loved ones from their lives, and a group of friends fight for their place in the face of such quiet vanishing.
Jonathan Larson's RENT opened Off-Broadway in 1996 on the 25th of January and became a global phenomenon. The show would earn Larson multiple Tony Awards along with a Pulitzer Prize for Drama - a distinction not received by a music theatre work for another 14 years. Though Larson himself would never see the impact of his masterwork - passing suddenly in the early hours of the very day the show would open to the public - it's longevity serves as a testament to the emotional resonance of Larson's creation and an embodiment of its ever-present message: "no day but today."
From the 8th of October, Highway Run Productions declares squatter's rights on Hayes Theatre Co's 111-seat theatre and presents a production in the spirit of those small beginnings. One iconic city, one life-changing year, one astonishing masterpiece: RENT.

Violet is a musical, with music by Jeanine Tesori and libretto by Brian Crawley, based on teh short story "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts. It tells the story of a young disfigured woman who embarks on a journey by bus from her farm in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma to find the preacher she believes can heal her.
Facially scarred as a child in a tragic accident, Violet undertakes her search for beauty amidst the image obsessed landscape and racial tensions of the American South in the 1960s. Journeying across the country with a rag bag of fellow travellers, she discovers that true beauty is not always in the eye of the beholder.
With a vibrant, multi-genre score by Jeanine Tesori (Caroline or Change, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek The Musical), and libretto by Brian Crawley (The Little Princess), Violet encompasses show-stopping anthems, American roots, soul and gospel.
To be presented at Hayes Theater Co in Nov/Dec 2015, Violet is to be directed by Australian theatre icon Mitchell Butel with Musical Direction by Lucy Bermingham (Strictly Ballroom, Guilty Pleasures), Choreography by Amy Campbell (Guilty Pleasures, So You Think You Can Dance) and Set Design by Simon Greer (Man of La Mancha).

Lionel is new at this. In fact, he's working it out as he goes along. Under duress from his terrifying German therapist to 'express himself', he has inadvertently found himself in a cabaret. Lionel draws on his limited knowledge of the style?and formidable Wikipedia skills to hilariously stumble his way through his hour on stage. After covering sex, booze, boys and mythical beasts he finds that maybe he's not so bad at expressing himself after all.
