The North Country Friends of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra announces its annual benefit party, "Uncorking Spring," at Spates the Florist, 20 Elm Street in Newport. The event will take place on Friday, May 15, from 6:30-8:30 pm.

"Uncorking Spring" is a chance to enjoy music and socialize with friends in a lovely setting on a spring evening. Attendees can stroll through Spates' splendid greenhouses and take advantage of exquisite plants at bargain prices. (15% off all perennials and 15% off 6-packs of annuals!) This North Country Friends event also includes gourmet appetizers provided by the Dancing Sail from the Eastside Restaurant, two complimentary glasses of wine, door prizes, and a celebration of the VSO's 80th birthday. Chris Nicotera (Celtic harp and guitar) and Heather Webster (flute) will once again provide musical entertainment in a tent just outside the main building.

Tickets are $30 per person, and space is limited. They are available in advance at Spates the Florist, Memphremagog Arts Collaborative (158 Main Street in Newport), by calling 988-4786, or at [ticket link]. All proceeds support the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, in particular its SymphonyKids outreach program, which last season reached over 3500 students in the North Country with 27 presentations serving 31 different schools in 23 different communities.
