The Little Orchestra Society, in association with New York City Center, is pleased to announce an exciting reimagined version of the timeless Russian masterpiece, Stravinsky's Firebird, at New York City Center on November 23rd and 24th. The production, part of The Little Orchestra Society's Happy Concerts for Young People series, will take audiences on an unforgettable journey through space and time using light, shadows, music, dance and Bunraku-style puppetry to tell the epic tale of Prince Ivan, the magical firebird and the struggle between good and evil. The story will be set to Stravinsky's dramatic narrative music and the performance will be guest conducted by David Alan Miller.

Joanne Bernstein Cohen, Executive Director of The Little Orchestra Society, said, "Our audience will experience the magical music of Stravinsky, along with a visual feast, in the reinvention of this 100-year-old work designed not only to entertain, but to ignite our audience's imagination. We are excited to bring our production of Firebird to New York City Center this season."

The Little Orchestra Society commissioned award-winning designer and puppeteer Chris M. Green and internationally acclaimed choreographer David Neumann to help create this not-to-be-missed production that pairs ten puppeteers with music performed live by our orchestra.

"This production of Stravinsky's Firebird weaves together imaginative storytelling and folklore and it captures that spirit for audiences of all ages," said Guest Conductor David Alan Miller. "It's a joy to work with The Little Orchestra Society on such a colorful and eye-opening series of performances."

"By combining innovative stage elements with classical music, we aim to inspire our audience with this extraordinary piece in a whole new light-as a space where the magic within a piece of music comes alive before their very eyes," said James Judd, Music Director of The Little Orchestra Society.

The Orchestra will also perform a repertoire of Russian classics including Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "March" and "Trepak" from the Nutcracker Suite; Aleksandr Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances" from Prince Igor, Modest Mussorgsky's "The Hut on Chicken's Legs" from Pictures at an Exhibition; and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Dance of the Comedians" from The Snow Maiden.

Tickets are $17, $30, $50 and $60 and available at 212-971-9500, or online at littleorchestra.org.
